Orthogonal Ambipolar Semiconductor Nanostructures for Complementary Logic Gates.

We report orthogonal ambipolar semiconductors that exhibit hole and electron transport in perpendicular directions based on aligned films of nanocrystalline "shish-kebabs" containing poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and N,N'-di-n-octyl-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide (PDI) as p- and n-type components, respectively. Polarized optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction measurements reveal a high degree of in-plane alignment. Relying on the orientation of interdigitated electrodes to enable efficient charge transport from either the respective p- or n-channel materials, we demonstrate semiconductor films with high anisotropy in the sign of charge carriers. Fick Diffusion Coefficients in Ternary Liquid Systems from Equilibrium Molecular Dynamics Simulations

An approach for computing Fick diffusivities directly from equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations is presented and demonstrated for a ternary chloroform–acetone–methanol liquid mixture. In our approach, Fick diffusivities are calculated from the Maxwell–Stefan (MS) diffusivities and the so-called matrix of thermodynamic factors. MS diffusivities describe the friction between different molecular species and can be directly computed from MD simulations. The thermodynamic factor describes the deviation from ideal mixing behavior and is difficult to extract from both experiments and simulations. We investigate an M/M/1 queue operating in two switching environments, where the switch is governed by a two-state time-homogeneous Markov chain. This model allows to describe a system that is subject to regular operating phases alternating with anomalous working phases or random repairing periods. We first obtain the steady-state distribution of the process in terms of a generalized mixture of two geometric distributions. The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro antimicrobial activity of 4 antibiotic agents (for E.faecalis) and 4 antifungal agents (for C.albicans) by agar dilution method. Additionally, modified strip diffusion method was used for detection of in vitro antimicrobial activities of 5% NaOCl, 2.5% NaOCl, 17% EDTA and 2% CHX and agar diffusion method for detection of in vitro susceptibilities of three intracanal medicaments for 18 E.faecalis and 18 C.albicans isolates from primary and secondary root canal infection. Pattern formation driven by cross–diffusion in a 2D domain

Abstract In this work we investigate the process of pattern formation in a two dimensional domain for a reaction–diffusion system with nonlinear diffusion terms and the competitive Lotka–Volterra kinetics. The linear stability analysis shows that cross-diffusion, through Turing bifurcation, is the key mechanism for the formation of spatial patterns. We show that the bifurcation can be regular, degenerate non-resonant and resonant. We use multiple scales expansions to derive the amplitude equations appropriate for each case and show that the system supports patterns like rolls, squares, mixed-mode patterns, supersquares, and hexagonal patterns.
Tuning Spin Current Injection at Ferromagnet-Nonmagnet Interfaces by Molecular Design.

There is a growing interest in utilizing the distinctive material properties of organic semiconductors for spintronic applications. Here, we explore the injection of pure spin current from Permalloy into a small molecule system based on dinaphtho[2,3-b:2,3-f]thieno[3,2-b]thiophene (DNTT) at ferromagnetic resonance. The unique tunability of organic materials by molecular design allows us to study the impact of interfacial properties on the spin injection efficiency systematically. We show that both the spin injection efficiency at the interface and the spin diffusion length can be tuned sensitively by the interfacial molecular structure and side chain substitution of the molecule.
Direct observation of spin diffusion enhanced nonadiabatic spin torque effects in rare-earth-doped permalloy

The relation between the nonadiabaticity parameter $\ensuremath{\beta}$ and the damping parameter $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ is investigated in permalloy-based microdisks. In order to determine $\ensuremath{\beta}$, high-resolution imaging of the current-induced vortex-core displacement is performed using scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis. The materials properties of the films are varied via rare-earth Dy doping, leading to a greatly enhanced damping, while retaining the same spin configuration for the confined vortex state. Some peculiar features of magnetic x,T-phase diagram of (1-x)PbFe1/2Nb1/2O3- xPbTiO3 system at x ≈ 0.1 have been ascribed previously to the change of the lattice symmetry from rhombohedral to tetragonal or to the decrease of the lattice parameter with x. We carried out structural, dielectric, magnetization, and Mossbauer studies of (1-x)PbFe1/2Nb1/2O3-xPbZrO3 system, where the symmetry remains rhombohedral, while the lattice parameter increases with x. However, the magnetic x,T-phase diagram of (1-x)PbFe1/2Nb1/2O3-xPbZrO3 appeared to be very similar to that of (1-x) PbFe1/2Nb1/2O3-xPbTiO3.
