Evaluation of Distributed OFDR-Based Sensing Performance in Mixed Neutron/Gamma Radiation Environments

We report the study of a radiation resistant single mode optical fiber doped with fluorine exposed to mixed neutron and $\gamma $ -radiation up to $10^{17}$ n/cm2 fluence and >2 MGy dose to evaluate its performances when used as the sensing element of a distributed Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry (OFDR). The use of complementary spectroscopic techniques highlights some differences between the responses of solely $\gamma $ -radiation (10 MGy) or mixed neutron and $\gamma $ ( $10^{17}$ n/cm $^{2}+>2$ MGy) irradiated samples. In the current (post-) pandemic context and through the lens of a southern European perspective the purpose of this article is to critically reflect about the role of culture as possible vehicle of urban and community regeneration. In particular we will focus on the activities of the no profit organization «Laboratorio Zen Insieme» in ZEN2 one of the last large popular and peripheral neighborhoods built in Palermo at the end of 80s in order to explore and understand how cultural practices work as agent of urban and social transformation capable of addressing emerging issues especially in the pandemic scenario we are experiencing. Thecasestudy has been conducted through analysis of documents participative observations (Honer and Hitzler 2015) and qualitative in-depth interviews with key actors involved in the conception organization and management of the activities carried out by Laboratorio Zen Insieme with representatives of local institutions and non-formal conversations with participants of the workshops heldin the neighborhood. The experience we narrate finds that cultural practices have re-conceptualized their design and functions as strategies of urban and community regeneration and at the same time have contributed to answer to emergent issues in developing proximity and local based strategies facing up to problems inherent civil rights educationalpoverty socio-spatial justice and have changed the image and identity of urban places they inhabit.In this sense the research provides a framework for development of strategies and legitimization for cultural practices and a point of discussionabouttheirrolein urban development.Although all cities in the world have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic its impacts on the territories yet to be understood are unevenly distributed revealing extremely varied imbalances depending on the places. Hydrogen and radiation induced effects on performances of Raman fiber-based temperature sensors

International audience; Raman Distributed Temperature Sensors (RDTS) offer exceptional advantages for the monitoring of the envisioned French deep geological repository for nuclear wastes, called Cigéo. Here, we present experimental studies on how the performances of RDTS evolve in harsh environments like those associated with H2 or g-rays. Both of them are shown to strongly affect the temperature measurements made with RDTS. We showed that by adapting the characteristics of the used fiber for the sensing, we could limit its degradation but that additional hardening by system studies will have to be developed before integration of RDTS in Cigéo.

Privacy-Preserving Overgrid: Secure Data Collection for the Smart Grid

In this paper, we present a privacy-preserving scheme for Overgrid, a fully distributed peer-to-peer (P2P) architecture designed to automatically control and implement distributed Demand Response (DR) schemes in a community of smart buildings with energy generation and storage capabilities. To monitor the power consumption of the buildings, while respecting the privacy of the users, we extend our previous Overgrid algorithms to provide privacy preserving data aggregation (PP-Overgrid). A parallel simulated annealing approach to the K shortest loopless paths problem

The k shortest loopless paths problem is a significant combinatorial problem which arises in many contexts. When the size of the networks is very large the exact algorithms fail to find the best solution in a reasonable time. The aim of this paper is to suggest parallel efficient algorithms to obtain a good approximation of the solution to the k shortest loopless paths problem between two arbitrary nodes, when the network size is large. The heuristic used is known in literature as Simulated Annealing. Preliminary tests have been conducted for evaluating the validity of the proposed algorithms. The quality of the obtained results represents a significant base for further experimentations.
