Traces of errors due to single ion in floating gate memories

2008

Single, high energy, high LET, ions impacting on a Floating gate array at grazing or near-grazing angles lead to the creation of long traces of FGs with corrupted information. Every time a FG is crossed by a single ion, it experiences a charge loss which permanently degrades the stored information. If the ion crosses more than one FG, the threshold voltage of all those FGs interested by its track will be degraded.

Rejection Power of A Horizontal Rpc Telescope For Left and Right Coming Cosmic Muons

1993

Abstract The possibility of performing neutrino astronomy by means of a detector above the ground depends critically on the feasibility of a rejection power on the order of 10 11 required to discriminate the enormous background of cosmic downward going muons from the signal of upward going muons produced by neutrinos. In order to check whether and how this rejection is obtainable, we have built in the Physics Department of the University of Bari a horizontal cosmic muon telescope (MINI) instrumented with resistive plate counters. By performing time-of-flight measurements, we have estimated the rejection power of our telescope for left and right coming cosmic muons. The rejection dependence …

STUDIES OF WIRE GAIN AND TRACK DISTORTION NEAR THE SECTOR EDGES OF THE ALEPH TIME PROJECTION CHAMBER

1986

Abstract The materials used to hold the wires at the sector edges in a large Time Projection Chamber (TPC) inrtoduce distortions of the electric drift field near those edges. These distortions degrade tracking information and sometimes cause large changes in wire gain near the edge. We have studied these two problems for the ALEPH TPC and have found that both can be greatly reduced by the addition of two field correction strips held at appropriate voltages.

A portable telescope based on the ALIBAVA system for test beam studies

2013

Abstract A test beam telescope has been built using the ALIBAVA system to drive its data acquisition. The basic telescope planes consist of four XYT stations. Each station is built from a detector board with two strip sensors, mounted one in each side (strips crossing at 90°). The ensemble is coupled to an ALIBAVA daughter board. These stations act as reference frame and allow a precise track reconstruction. The system is triggered by the coincidence signal of the two scintillators located up and down stream. The telescope can hold several devices under tests. Each ALIBAVA daughter board is linked to its corresponding mother board. The system can hold up to 16 mother boards. A master board …

A computational magnetohydrodynamic model of a marine propulsion system

2016

In this article we present an approach to the description of Magnetohydrodynamic Propulsion. Preliminarly, an analytical model which includes an electromagnetic model and a thermal model is presented. Successively, in order to move beyond the analytical model, a 3-D MHD modeling tool and a Runge Kutta method based solver are presented and they are used to investigate an alternative MHD solutions. Some numerical analysis are given.

The track finding algorithm of the Belle II vertex detectors

2017

The Belle II experiment is a high energy multi purpose particle detector operated at the asymmetric e + e − - collider SuperKEKB in Tsukuba (Japan). In this work we describe the algorithm performing the pattern recognition for inner tracking detector which consists of two layers of pixel detectors and four layers of double sided silicon strip detectors arranged around the interaction region. The track finding algorithm will be used both during the High Level Trigger on-line track reconstruction and during the off-line full reconstruction. It must provide good efficiency down to momenta as low as 50 MeV/c where material effects are sizeable even in an extremely thin detector as the VXD. In a…

Characteristic structure of the resistive relativistic magnetohydrodynamic equations

2012

We present the analysis of the characteristic structure of the resistive (non-ideal) relativistic magnetohydrodynamics system of equations. This is a necessary step to develop high-resolution shock-capturing schemes that use the full characteristic information (Godunov-type methods), and it is convenient to establish proper boundary conditions.

Laser driven structured quantum rings

2015

In this work we study harmonic emission from structured quantum rings (SQRs). In SQRs, electrons trapped in two-dimensional structures are further confined by an external potential composed of N scattering centers arranged on a circle. We build a suitable one-dimensional model Hamiltonian describing this class of systems and analytically solve the associated Schödinger equation. We find that the solution can be expressed in terms of Mathieu functions and focus on the specific case of N = 6. By exactly solving the time-dependent Schödinger equation, we then show how the harmonic response to linearly polarized lasers strongly depends on the ring physical parameters. The results illustrate how…

An RMHD study of transition between prompt and afterglow GRB phases

2008

We study the afterglow phases of a GRB through relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations. The evolution of a relativistic shell propagating into a homogeneous external medium is followed. We focus on the effect of the magnetization of the ejecta on the initial phases of the ejecta-external medium interaction. In particular we are studying the condition for the existence of a reverse shock into the ejecta, the timescale for the transfer of the energy from the shell to the shocked medium and the resulting multiwavelength light curves. To this end, we have developed a novel scheme to include non-thermal processeses which is coupled to the relativistic magnetohydrodynamic code MRGENESIS in o…

Radiation Magnetohydrodynamic Models and Spectral Signatures of Plasma Flows Accreting onto Classical T Tauri Stars

2019

CTTSs are young stars accreting mass from their circumstellar disks. The material falls into the star at free fall velocity and hits the stellar surface producing shocks, that heat the plasma at few million degrees. In the last twenty years the X-ray and UV observations of these systems have raised several questions. In particular, the observed X-ray luminosity is systematically below the value predicted by theoretical models, and the UV lines show complex profiles which cannot be easily interpreted with current accretion models based only on magnetohydrodynamical effects. To tackle these problems we modeled the structure and the dynamics of the plasma in the impact region using 3D magnetoh…
