Teachers’ Knowledge Regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): A Systematic Review
2021
The increasing number of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in mainstream education environments require teachers to know how to identify their needs, being capable to adapt their education processes and make their inclusion easier. The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic review about teachers’ knowledge of ASD, including teachers from any stage and specialization. The research has been conducted from four databases (Web of Science, Scopus, PsycInfo and Google Scholar) during the period of 2015–2020. In total, 25 articles were analyzed. The results show that, in general, teachers’ knowledge of ASD is poor. It depends on the education stage (being higher in early child…
Relations between multi-resolution analysis and quantum mechanics
2005
We discuss a procedure to construct multiresolution analyses (MRA) of L2 (R) starting from a given seed function h (s) which should satisfy some conditions. Our method, originally related to the quantum mechanical Hamiltonian of the fractional quantum Hall effect, is shown to be model independent. The role of a canonical map between certain canonically conjugate operators is discussed. This clarifies our previous procedure and makes much easier most of the original formulas, producing a convenient framework to produce examples of MRA. © 2005 American Institute of Physics.
Soret coefficient of trace ions determined with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in a thin cell. Theory and measurement
2018
The tendency of a substance to migrate due to a temperature gradient is known as thermodiffusion or the Soret effect. We believe that this is the first work that describes the study of the Soret effect using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in a non-isothermal thin cell, and shows how the Soret coefficient can be determined from these measurements. The effect of a temperature gradient in a thin cell is analyzed, both theoretically and experimentally. Our theoretical modeling of the system predicts the effect of key parameters to the impedance spectra. Experimentally we determine the Soret coefficient of the redox couple Fe(CN)64−/Fe(CN)63− in an aqueous KCl solution. It is found that …
Correlations for estimating the specific capital cost of multi-effect distillation plants considering the main design trends and operating conditions
2018
Abstract This work proposes a correlation for the specific capital cost of multi-effect distillation (MED) plants, considering their main design options and parameters, such as the number of effects, size/capacity, and heat source temperature. These parameters are varied within a large range to cover as many different cases as possible. The cost correlation decouples the evaporator cost and includes in the expression the ratio of the heat exchanger area to a reference one. This area is calculated using a validated MED numerical model, with the results then processed to produce fitted expressions. Two versions of this correlation with different levels of complexity are proposed, which provid…
Theoretical efficiency limits for thermoradiative energy conversion
2015
Published version of an article in the journal: Journal of Applied Physics. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4907392 A new method to produce electricity from heat called thermoradiative energy conversion is analyzed. The method is based on sustaining a difference in the chemical potential for electron populations above and below an energy gap and let this difference drive a current through an electric circuit. The difference in chemical potential originates from an imbalance in the excitation and de-excitation of electrons across the energy gap. The method has similarities to thermophotovoltaics and conventional photovoltaics. While photovoltaic cells absorb…
Theoretical study of oligomeric alumatranes present in the chemistry of materials from micro to mesoporous molecular sieves and alumina composites
2008
Quantum chemical calculations using density functional theory have been carried out to investigate molecular precursors based on alumatranes which are one of the components with silatranes for the preparation of mesoporous aluminosilicate materials. In the same way, some oligomeric alumatranes of this study take part in chemical syntheses related to materials such as zeolites and alumina composite. Gas phase and solution equilibrium geometries of the alumatrane precursors were fully optimized at B3LYP level, modeling solvent effects using a self-consistent reaction field (SCRF). From these optimized geometries, calculations of the 1 H, 13 C and 27 Al NMR chemical shifts at GIAO/B3LYP/6-31G(…
Towards an AMTEC-like device based on non-alkali metal for efficient, safe and reliable direct conversion of thermal to electric power
2018
Alkali Metal ThermoElectric Converters directly convert heat into electric energy and have promising applicability in the field of sustainable and renewable energy. The high theoretical efficiency, close to Carnot's cycle, the lack of moving parts, and the interesting operating temperature range drive the search for new materials able to ensure safe and reliable operation at competitive costs. The present work focuses on the design of a non-alkali metal based cell and on the fabrication of a testing device to validate the design work. The selection of a new operating fluid for the cell improves durability, reliability and safety of the device. Finally, we discuss possible applications to alr…
Size control of InAs∕InP(001) quantum wires by tailoring P∕As exchange
2004
The size and emission wavelength of self-assembled InAs∕InP(001) quantum wires (QWrs) is affected by the P∕As exchange process. In this work, we demonstrate by in situ stress measurements that P∕As exchange at the InAs∕InP interface depends on the surface reconstruction of the InAs starting surface and its immediate evolution when the arsenic cell is closed. Accordingly, the amount of InP grown on InAs by P∕As exchange increases with substrate temperature in a steplike way. These results allow us to engineer the size of the QWr for emission at 1.3 and 1.55 μm at room temperature by selecting the range of substrate temperatures in which the InP cap layer is grown.
Experimental characterization of a novel configuration of thermoelectric refrigerator with integrated finned heat pipes
2021
Abstract Thermoelectric refrigerating systems (TER) are environment-friendly technologies. They have several advantages such as low maintenance costs, are less cumbersome and long lifetime. However, these systems have low coefficient of performance and are limited in achieving low temperature levels. This study investigates a new configuration of TE refrigerator employing a novel arrangement of heat sinks with integrated flat and finned heat pipes. A mathematical model is firstly developed to predict transient temperatures and cooling limit time. An experimental characterization is then performed and it includes optimization of energy consumption, cooling time, temperature levels and TE ref…
Chain Connectivity and Conformational Variability of Polymers: Clues to an Adequate Thermodynamic Description of Their Solutions, 1
2003
This is the first of two parts investigating the Flory-Huggins interaction parameter, χ, as a function of composition and chain length. Part 1 encompasses experimental and theorical work. The former comprise the synthesis of poly(dimethylsiloxane)s with different molar mass and the measurements of their second second osmotic virial coefficients, A 2 , in solvents of diverse quality as a function of M via light scattering and osmotic pressures. The theorical analysis is performed by subdividing the dilution process into two clearly separable steps. It yields the following expression for χ ο , the χ value in range of pair interaction : χ ο = α - ζ λ. The parameter α measures the effect of con…
