Abstract LBH589 is a novel cinnamic acid hydroxamate DACi which induces apoptosis in multiple hematologic tumor cell lines in vitro at nanomolar levels. LBH589 has been administered orally, once-a-day, on Monday/Wednesday/Friday, every week (Arm 1) or every other week (Arm 2), in cycles of 28 days, to adult pts with advanced hematologic malignancies. A 3-parameter Bayesian logistic regression model guided dose escalation. Background  One of the major goals of pemphigus therapy is to reduce the patient’s cumulative exposure to systemic corticosteroids. To investigate the efficacy of enteric-coated mycophenolate sodium (EC-MPS), 10 patients with active, refractory pemphigus vulgaris (PV) or foliaceous (PF) were treated with EC-MPS (1440 mg daily) and prednisone (75 mg daily) over 18 months. Observations  Following EC-MPS/prednisone therapy, disease progression was inhibited between days 30 and 45 in 9/10 patients (8 PV; 1 PF). This open, randomised study was carried out in order to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a course of 5 intra-articular injections (one per week) of hyaluronic acid (HA), administered to patients with pain and joint stiffness resulting from immobilisation of the knee in a plaster cast. The study was made in comparison with an untreated control group. 30 patients of both genders, aged between 18 and 65 years, immobilised in a plaster cast for at least 20 days and presenting with pain and reduced mobility, were included in the study.
