Design principles for learning analytics information systems in higher education
2020
This paper reports a design science research (DSR) study that develops, demonstrates and evaluates a set of design principles for information systems (IS) that utilise learning analytics to support learning and teaching in higher education. The initial set of design principles is created from theory-inspired conceptualisation based on the literature, and they are evaluated and revised through a DSR process of demonstration and evaluation. We evaluated the developed artefact in four courses with a total enrolment of 1,173 students. The developed design principles for learning analytics information systems (LAIS) to establish a foundation for further development and implementation of learning…
Simultaneous determinations of zirconium, hafnium, yttrium and lanthanides in seawater according to a co-precipitation technique onto iron-hydroxide.
2013
Very low concentrations (pg mL(-1) or sub-pg mL(-1) level) along with the high salinity are the main problems in determining trace metal contents in seawater. This problem is mainly considered for investigations of naturally occurring YLOID (Y and Lanthanides) and Zr and Hf in order to provide precise and accurate results. The inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), both in high and low resolution, offers many advantages including simultaneous analyses of all elements and their quantitative determination with detection limits of the order of pg mL(-1). However in the analysis of YLOID in seawater, a better determination needs an efficient combination of ICP-MS measurement wit…
Fully representable and*-semisimple topological partial*-algebras
2012
We continue our study of topological partial *-algebras, focusing our attention to *-semisimple partial *-algebras, that is, those that possess a {multiplication core} and sufficiently many *-representations. We discuss the respective roles of invariant positive sesquilinear (ips) forms and representable continuous linear functionals and focus on the case where the two notions are completely interchangeable (fully representable partial *-algebras) with the scope of characterizing a *-semisimple partial *-algebra. Finally we describe various notions of bounded elements in such a partial *-algebra, in particular, those defined in terms of a positive cone (order bounded elements). The outcome …
Bounded elements of C*-inductive locally convex spaces
2013
The notion of bounded element of C*-inductive locally convex spaces (or C*-inductive partial *-algebras) is introduced and discussed in two ways: The first one takes into account the inductive structure provided by certain families of C*-algebras; the second one is linked to the natural order of these spaces. A particular attention is devoted to the relevant instance provided by the space of continuous linear maps acting in a rigged Hilbert space.

Hexafluoro complex of rutherfordium in mixed HF/HNO3 solutions
2008
Formation of anionic fluoride-complexes of element 104, rutherfordium, produced in the 248 Cm( 18 O, 5n) 261 Rf reaction was studied by anion-exchange on an atom-at-a-time scale. It was found that the hexafluoro complex of Rf, [RfF 6 ] 2- , was formed in the studied fluoride ion concentrations of 0.0005-0.013 M. Formation of [RfF 6 ] 2- was significantly different from that of the homologues Zr and Hf, [ZrF 6 ] 2- and [HfF 6 ] 2- ; the evaluated formation constant of [RfF 6 ] 2- is at least one-order of magnitude smaller than those of [ZrF 6 ] 2- and [HfF 6 ] 2- .
Liquid-Phase Chemistry of Superheavy Elements
2013
An overview over the chemical separation and characterization experiments of the four transactinide elements so far studied in liquid phases, rutherfordium (Rf), dubnium (Db), seaborgium (Sg), and hassium (Hs), is presented. Results are discussed in view of the position of these elements in the Periodic Table and of their relation to theoretical predictions. Short introductions on experimental techniques in liquid-phase chemistry, specifically automated rapid chemical separation systems, are also given. Studies of nuclear properties of transactinide nuclei by chemical isolation will be mentioned. Some perspectives for further liquid-phase chemistry on heavier elements are briefly discussed.
Precision Measurement of the First Ionization Potential of Nobelium
2018
One of the most important atomic properties governing an element's chemical behavior is the energy required to remove its least-bound electron, referred to as the first ionization potential. For the heaviest elements, this fundamental quantity is strongly influenced by relativistic effects which lead to unique chemical properties. Laser spectroscopy on an atom-at-a-time scale was developed and applied to probe the optical spectrum of neutral nobelium near the ionization threshold. The first ionization potential of nobelium is determined here with a very high precision from the convergence of measured Rydberg series to be 6.626 21±0.000 05 eV. This work provides a stringent benchmark for st…
Starptautisko privāttiesību attīstība Latvijā
2016
Maģistra darbā “Starptautisko privāttiesību attīstība Latvijā”, izmantojot vairākas zinātniskās pētniecības metodes, analizēta starptautisko privāttiesību, galvenokārt kolīziju normu, attīstība Latvijā, vērtējot nacionālā regulējuma mijiedarbību ar starptautisko un Eiropas Savienības regulējumu. Maģistra darba gaitā secināts, ka, lai gan ir notikusi starptautisko privāttiesību attīstību, tomēr Civillikumā ietverto kolīziju normu attīstība Latvijā gandrīz nav notikusi, pamatojoties uz arvien pieaugošo Eiropas Savienības regulējuma ietekmi. Tomēr, neskatoties uz Eiropas Savienības regulējumu, būtu nepieciešams atkārtoti aktualizēt jautājumu par starptautisko privāttiesību likuma izstrādi Latv…
Microscopic calculation of the LSP detection rates for the 71Ga, 73Ge and 127I dark-matter detectors
2004
Abstract We have investigated the nuclear-structure details of the cross sections for the elastic scattering of Lightest Supersymmetric Particles (LSPs) from the promising dark-matter detectors 71 Ga, 73 Ge and 127 I. The associated LSP detection sensitivities have been obtained by a folding procedure for several recently proposed SUSY models with different scalar and axial-vector characteristics. For the nuclear problem, a realistic microscopic Hamiltonian has been used within realistic model spaces. The diagonalization of this Hamiltonian has been done by using the Microscopic Quasiparticle–Phonon Model (MQPM), suitable for description of spectroscopic properties of medium-heavy and heavy…
