Teoria dell’equilibrio del controllo di Tittle
2021
The theory developed by Charles R. Tittle is analyzed which combines assumptions derived from a series of theories, such as the theory of social control, differential association, anomie, conflict theories, labeling, rational choice and theory of routine activities.
What causes the large extensions of red-supergiant atmospheres? Comparisons of interferometric observations with 1-D hydrostatic, 3-D convection, and…
2015
We present the atmospheric structure and the fundamental parameters of three red supergiants, increasing the sample of RSGs observed by near-infrared spectro-interferometry. Additionally, we test possible mechanisms that may explain the large observed atmospheric extensions of RSGs. We carried out spectro-interferometric observations of 3 RSGs in the near-infrared K-band with the VLTI/AMBER instrument at medium spectral resolution. To comprehend the extended atmospheres, we compared our observational results to predictions by available hydrostatic PHOENIX, available 3-D convection, and new 1-D self-excited pulsation models of RSGs. Our near-infrared flux spectra are well reproduced by the P…
ON the NATURE of HYDROSTATIC EQUILIBRIUM in GALAXY CLUSTERS
2016
In this paper we investigate the level of hydrostatic equilibrium (HE) in the intra-cluster medium of simulated galaxy clusters, extracted from state-of-the-art cosmological hydrodynamical simulations performed with the Smoothed-Particle-Hydrodynamic code GADGET-3. These simulations include several physical processes, among which stellar and AGN feedback, and have been performed with an improved version of the code that allows for a better description of hydrodynamical instabilities and gas mixing processes. Evaluating the radial balance between the gravitational and hydrodynamical forces, via the gas accelerations generated, we effectively examine the level of HE in every object of the sam…
Non-accumulation of critical points of the Poincaré time on hyperbolic polycycles
2007
We call Poincare time the time associated to the Poincar6 (or first return) map of a vector field. In this paper we prove the non-accumulation of isolated critical points of the Poincare time T on hyperbolic polycycles of polynomial vector fields. The result is obtained by proving that the Poincare time of a hyperbolic polycycle either has an unbounded principal part or is an almost regular function. The result relies heavily on the proof of Il'yashenko's theorem on non-accumulation of limit cycles on hyperbolic polycycles.
Cascade complex formation by phosphate in the cobalt(II)/[30]aneN10 anaerobic system
1993
Abstract The interaction of phosphate with the mono- and binuclear cobalt(II) complexes of [30]aneN 10 (1,4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25,28-decaazacyclotriacontane) has been studied by potentiometry in 0.15 mol dm −3 NaClO 4 solution at 298.15 K under anaerobic conditions. The stable species [CoH 2 ([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] + , [CoH 4 ([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] 3+ , [Co 2 H([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] 2+ , [Co 2 H 2 ([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] 3+ and [Co 2 H 3 ([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] 4+ , where the phosphate anion is directly bound to the metal ions or acts as a second sphere ligand, are formed and their stability constants have been determined. The results obtained allowed for the selection of suitable conditions for the study…
Calculation of proton activity in aqueous protolyte solutions
1980
Abstract A general and thermodynamically exact equation for the calculation of the proton (hydroxide ion) activity of aqueous solutions of monoprotic acidic (and basic) species is given. Under certain conditions, various approximate equations can be derived from the exact form; the applicability of these depends mainly on both the thermodynamic equilibrium constant, K p , of the protolytic reaction, and the stoichiometric concentration, C o , of the protolyte. Taking into account the mean ionic activity coefficients which are calculated by means of the Davies equation, diagrams are constructed exhibiting those combinations of K p and C o for which the respective approximations can be applie…
Debt Sustainability and Fiscal Space in a Heterogeneous Monetary Union: Normal Times Vs the Zero Lower Bound
2020
In this paper we study fiscal policy effects and fiscal space for countries in a monetary union with different levels of public debt. We develop a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) model of a two-country monetary union, calibrated to match the characteristics of Spain and Germany, in which debt sustainability is endogenously determined a la Bi (2012) to shape the responses of the risk premium on public debt. Policy shocks change the market’s expectation about future primary surplus, producing a direct effect on the sovereign risk premium and macroeconomic responses of the economy. In normal times the costs of a government spending driven fiscal consolidation in the high-debt cou…
A Partial Equilibrium Model of Option Markets
2000
This paper addresses the questions who is buying and who is selling options on a stock, the optimal position to hold, and how this affects the price. The individual demand functions and the equilibrium allocation are derived using an asymptotically valid expansion. Trading occurs only at discrete dates; the option does not have to complete the market. The paper also discusses the conditions under which trade results, the importance of heterogeneity for trade, when preferences become irrelevant to price options, and the case in which there is only a spanning demand, but no risk-sharing demand in options.
About the badness of existence and the prospect of extinction
2021
In this paper I consider the case of people who find The Mere Addition Principle counterintuitive. Their particular intuitions may be understood as instances of The Principle of Intrinsic Disvalue of Existence (PIDA). Following this idea Contractualism seems to be an appropriate method to solve population ethics dilemmas. Still, I show that their rejection of The Mere Addition Principle – if understood as an instance of PIDA – is not enough to avoid these dilemmas and to reach a stable equilibrium among their intuitions. In fact, if their denial of The Mere Addition Principle is grounded on PIDA, the consequences which would follow are likely to be unacceptable for many of them. In particul…
Thermodynamic approach of supercontinuum generation
2009
International audience; This paper is aimed at providing an overview on recent theoretical and experimental works in which a thermodynamic description of the incoherent regime of supercontinuum generation has been formulated. On the basis of the wave turbulence theory, we show that this highly nonlinear and quasi-continuous-wave regime of supercontinuum generation is characterized by two different phenomena. (i) A process of optical wave thermalization ruled by the four-wave mixing effects: The spectral broadening inherent to supercontinuum generation is shown to result from the natural tendency of the optical field to reach its thermodynamic equilibrium state, i. e., the state of maximum n…
