INTERVENTIONS TO PREVENT SPORTS RELATED INJURIES: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS OF RANDOMISED CONTROLLED TRIALS
2013
The effects of methods to prevent injuries have been studied in several systematic reviews. However, no meta-analysis taking into account all randomised controlled intervention trials aiming at the prevention of sports injuries has been published. To summarise the effects of sports injury prevention interventions.Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.PubMed, MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, PEDro, and Web of Science, searched in September 2013. The reference lists of retrieved articles and reviews were hand searched. To be selected articles had to examine the effects of any preventive intervention on sports injurie…
Rīgas apgaismes tehnikas rūpnīcas darbība no 1958.-1991.gadam
2016
Exposure to trihalomethanes through different water uses and birth weight, small for gestational age, and preterm delivery in Spain
2011
Background: Evidence associating exposure to water disinfection by-products with reduced birth weight and altered duration of gestation remains inconclusive. Objective: We assessed exposure to trihalomethanes (THMs) during pregnancy through different water uses and evaluated the association with birth weight, small for gestational age (SGA), low birth weight (LBW), and preterm delivery. Methods: Mother–child cohorts set up in five Spanish areas during the years 2000–2008 contributed data on water ingestion, showering, bathing, and swimming in pools. We ascertained residential THM levels during pregnancy periods through ad hoc sampling campaigns (828 measurements) and regulatory data (264 me…
Bacterial contamination of inanimate surfaces and equipment in the intensive care unit.
2015
Intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired infections are a challenging health problem worldwide, especially when caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. In ICUs, inanimate surfaces and equipment (e.g., bedrails, stethoscopes, medical charts, ultrasound machine) may be contaminated by bacteria, including MDR isolates. Cross-transmission of microorganisms from inanimate surfaces may have a significant role for ICU-acquired colonization and infections. Contamination may result from healthcare workers' hands or by direct patient shedding of bacteria which are able to survive up to several months on dry surfaces. A higher environmental contamination has been reported around infected patients tha…
Self-assembled monolayers based spintronics: from ferromagnetic surface functionalization to spin-dependent transport.
2016
Chemically functionalized surfaces are studied for a wide range of applications going from medicine to electronics. Whereas non-magnetic surfaces have been widely studied, functionalization of magnetic surfaces is much less common and has almost never been used for spintronics applications. In this article we present the functionalization of La2/3Sr1/3MnO3, a ferromagnetic oxide, with self-assembled monolayers for spintronics. La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 is the prototypical half-metallic manganite used in spintronics studies. First, we show that La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 can be functionalized by alkylphosphonic acid molecules. We then emphasize the use of these functionalized surfaces in spintronics devices such a…
A 4 tonne demonstrator for large-scale dual-phase liquid argon time projection chambers
2018
A 10 kilo-tonne dual-phase liquid argon TPC is one of the detector options considered for the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). The detector technology relies on amplification of the ionisation charge in ultra-pure argon vapour and offers several advantages compared to the traditional single-phase liquid argon TPCs. A 4.2 tonne dual-phase liquid argon TPC prototype, the largest of its kind, with an active volume of \three has been constructed and operated at CERN. In this paper we describe in detail the experimental setup and detector components as well as report on the operation experience. We also present the first results on the achieved charge amplification, prompt scintillat…
All-optical discrete vortex switch
2011
We introduce discrete vortex solitons and vortex breathers in circular arrays of nonlinear waveguides. The simplest vortex breather in a four-waveguide coupler is a nonlinear dynamic state changing its topological charge between $+1$ and $\ensuremath{-}1$ periodically during propagation. We find the stability domain for this solution and suggest an all-optical vortex switching scheme.
Four-Color Infrared Bolometer System for One-Meter Telescope
1978
As a part of the collaborative program between the University of Palermo and the Center for Astrophysics (HCO/SAO) a far infrared photometer has been designed, fabricated and tested by the Univsity of Palermo to be used as a focal plane instrument on the Center of Astrophysics/University of Arizona balloon-borne 102 cm telescope (Fazio et a1. 1974).
The storage ring magnet of the third muon (g-2) experiment at CERN
1978
The third ( g −2) experiment carried out at CERN required a storage ring magnet with a field as uniform as possible and known with an accuracy of a few parts per million over the whole storage region. Here we describe this magnet, which has a useful aperture of 120 mm horizontally and 80 mm vertically and a diameter of ∼14 m. The various field controls necessary are indicated, and the complex procedure adopted for the shimming work is described. The finally reached homogeneity of the field, averaged in azimuth, was 3 ppm. All the various error sources and field map corrections needed are analysed. Finally, the special aspects of the machine developed for the shimming are described.
Performance evaluation of non volatile memories with a low cost and portable automatic test equipment
2017
This paper presents a versatile and portable test equipment, called portable ATE for research and development of non-volatile memories functionalities. The system is based on STM32-NUCLEO assembled with a custom designed daughter board, in order to host non-volatile memories test-chips, to manage the needed power supplies and generate suitable signals stimuli for correct operations. The system is controlled and programmed by a personal computer, via USB interface. In particular the system can perform: memory reading, writing and erasing, with settings flexibility on time and voltage levels; Electrical Stress Tests (Drain, Gate and Bulk Stress); Cycling Tests; debugging algorithms (erase or …
