The lectin binding sites of the synovium of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis were investigated. It was shown that Ulex europaeus agglutinin is a constant marker of the vascular endothelium and is not induced during the course of inflammatory process in rheumatoid arthritis.

The aim of this article is to look at the ways in which young European women staying in the city of Varanasi for long periods of time talk about India and how they negotiate their place and role as women there. There is a common travellers’ discourse that sees India as a difficult and dangerous place to a vulnerable traveler, and the encounters of colonial women with “otherness” have been widely analysed. This article brings this discussion to the post colonial era and endeavors to initiate a discussion about how to understand the encounters between visiting Western women and the locals in India today. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan puutarhaviljelyn yleistymistä ja puutarhaneuvonnan vastaanottoa maamme syrjäseudulla 1900-luvun aikana. Suomalaisen puutarhakulttuurin ydinalue sijoittuu Etelä- ja Lounais-Suomeen, jossa väestön varallisuus, sivistystaso ja ilmasto mahdollistivat puutarhaviljelyn esimerkiksi kartanoissa jo varhain. Myös pappiloiden ja virkatalojen tiheä verkosto sekä julkiset istutukset edesauttoivat sekä kasvien että viljelytaitojen leviämistä kaikkiin kansankerroksiin. Sen sijaan maan itä- ja pohjoisosissa puutarhan hyöty- ja koristekasvit olivat vielä 1800-luvun lopulla lähes tuntemattomia etenkin maaseutuväestön keskuudessa.
