Political risk and export promotion: evidence from Germany

Political risk represents an important hidden transaction cost that reduces international trade. This paper investigates the claim that German public export credit guarantees (Hermes guarantees) mitigate this friction to trade flows and hence promote exports. We employ an empirical trade gravity model, where we explicitly control for political risk in the importing country in order to evaluate the effect of export guarantees. The idea behind export promotion through public export credit agencies (ECAs) is that the private market is unable to provide adequate insurance for all risks associated with exports. The contribution of ozone to forest decline

More than 10 years of intensive research into forest decline in Germany has ascertained that the full extent of the visible damage cannot be explained by just one of the current hypotheses on forest decline. One of the prominent hypotheses is that chronic exposure of forest trees to ozone is probably one of the primary causes of forest decline. The aim of this paper is the critical review of a number of recent results dealing with the ozone hypothesis from a plant physiological point of view. The synopsis focusses on the effects of ozone on conifers because the most extensive data are available for coniferous trees, especially for spruce (Picea sp.) and pine (Pinus sp.) trees.

Abstract The aim of this work is to quantify the sensitivity of shortwave radiative fluxes to changes in the vertical distribution of aerosol absorption, taken into account through the aerosol Single Scattering Albedo (SSA). The case study represents a real atmospheric situation with a desert dust layer (DDL) in the mid troposphere over an urban Boundary Layer (BL) observed at Rome on 20 June 2007. A moderately high aerosol optical depth (AOD), 0.292 at 550 nm, and low Angstrom exponent of 0.30 were measured. Este artículo estudia el efecto de los subsidios a la exportación sobre las decisiones de organización interna de la empresa, concretamente sobre la decisión de delegar ventas en un distribuidor independiente. El modelo abunda en la interrelación existente entre la política comercial y la política de competencia. En el contexto de un duopolio à la Brander y Spencer (1985), se demuestra que los subsidios a la exportación armonizan los intereses privados y sociales. En el territorio que se extiende entre Dertosa (Tortosa) y Carthago Nova, una franja costera alargada y poco profunda de 318 km de longitud en la que se sitúa el País Valenciano, se conocen nueve ciudades romanas, de las que dos son colonias y siete municipios. En este trabajo se analizan los procesos de ruina y expolio a que fueron sometidas tras la desaparición del Imperio, entre los siglos V y VII.
