A measurement-based channel model for vehicular communications in tunnels

2014

Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC), 2014 IEEE, Istanbul, TURQUIE, 06-/04/2014 - 09/04/2014; In this paper, we present a new version of the iterative nonlinear least square approximation (INLSA) algorithm for the design of measurement-based channel simulators. The proposed method aims to match the time-variant impulse response (TVIR) of the simulation model to that of the measured channel. The propagation delays are discerned directly from the measurements, whereas the gains, the Doppler frequencies, and the phases are computed iteratively by minimizing a matching error norm. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method in terms of the approximation of the transfe…

Statistical Analysis of the Channel Capacity Outage Intervals in Massive MIMO Systems with OSTBC over Rayleigh Fading Channels

2015

This paper studies approximate solutions for the statistical properties of the outage intervals of the instantaneous capacity in massive multiple- input multiple- output (MIMO) sys- tems with orthogonal space-time block code (OSTBC) over Rayleigh fading channels. We take advantage from the fact that the probability density function (PDF) of the channel power gain can be approximated by a left-truncated Gaussian distribution if the number of transmit and receive antennas is large. Assuming a symmetrical Doppler power spectral density (PSD), a closed- form expression is presented for the Rice probability function of the outage durations. This function, in general, approximates the PDF of the …

The influence of severity of fading on the statistical properties of the capacity of Nakagami-m channels with MRC and EGC

2010

In this article, we have studied the statistical properties of the capacity of Nakagami-m channels when spatial diversity combining, such as maximal ratio combining (MRC) and equal gain combining (EGC), is employed at the receiver. The presented results provide insight into the statistical properties of the channel capacity under a wide range of fading conditions in wireless links using L-branch diversity combining techniques. We have derived closed-form analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), level-crossing rate (LCR), and average duration of fades (ADF) of the channel capacity. The statistical properties of the capacity ar…

On 1-Laplacian Elliptic Equations Modeling Magnetic Resonance Image Rician Denoising

2015

Modeling magnitude Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) rician denoising in a Bayesian or generalized Tikhonov framework using Total Variation (TV) leads naturally to the consideration of nonlinear elliptic equations. These involve the so called $1$-Laplacian operator and special care is needed to properly formulate the problem. The rician statistics of the data are introduced through a singular equation with a reaction term defined in terms of modified first order Bessel functions. An existence theory is provided here together with other qualitative properties of the solutions. Remarkably, each positive global minimum of the associated functional is one of such solutions. Moreover, we directly …

An Exact Solution for the Level-Crossing Rate of Shadow Fading Processes Modelled by Using the Sum-of-Sinusoids Principle

2008

Published version of an article in the journal: Wireless Personal Communications. The original publication is available at Springerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11277-008-9512-3 The focus of this paper is on the higher order statistics of spatial simulation models for shadowing processes. Such processes are generally assumed to follow the lognormal distribution. The proposed spatial simulation model is derived from a non-realizable lognormal reference model with given correlation properties by using Rice's sum-of-sinusoids. Both exact and approximate expressions are presented for the level-crossing rate (LCR) and the average duration of fades (ADF) of the simulation model. It is pointed …

On the Correlation and Ergodic Properties of the Squared Envelope of SOC Rayleigh Fading Channel Simulators

2012

Published version of an article in the journal: Wireless Personal Communications. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11277-011-0493-2 In this paper, we investigate the correlation and ergodic properties of the squared envelope of a class of autocorrelation-ergodic (AE) sum-of-cisoids (SOC) simulation models for mobile Rayleigh fading channels. Novel closed-form expressions are presented for both the ensemble and the time autocorrelation functions (ACFs) of the SOC simulation model’s squared envelope. These expressions have been derived by assuming that the SOC model’s inphase and quadrature (IQ) components have arbitrary autocorrelation and cross-correlation pr…

On the performance of hybrid-ARQ with code combining over double rayleigh fading channels

2011

In this paper, we study the performance of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) with code combining (CC) over double Rayleigh channels. This channel can be utilized to model the fading envelope of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) channels. We derive analytical solutions for the characteristic quantities of double Rayleigh channels, such as the outage probability, the ergodic capacity, and the bit error probability (BEP). Moreover, we study the performance of HARQ with CC. Our analysis focuses on information theoretic aspects of HARQ with CC. closed-form analytical approximations are derived for the e-outage capacity, the average number of transmissions, and the average transmission rate of HARQ w…
