Pathways Through Peer Assessment: Implementing Peer Assessment in a Lower Secondary Physics Classroom
2020
AbstractPeer assessment has been shown to advance learning, for example, by improving one’s work, but the variance of learning benefits within or between studies has not been explained. The purpose of this case study was to examine what kinds of pathways students have through peer assessment and to study which factors affect them when peer assessment is implemented in the early stage of physics studies in the context of conducting and reporting inquiry. Data sources used include field notes, audio recordings of lessons, student lab reports, written peer feedback, and student interviews. We examined peer assessment from the perspective of individual students and found 3 profiles of peer asse…
Musical Feedback: a new strategy in gait training for Parkinson’s Disease Patients
2016
Rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) for gait training in Parkinson’s disease has been applied successfully over the last three decades. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of an extended concept of RAS, which is not limited to musical stimulation, but also includes musical feedback. In our study the comparison between RAS, musical feedback (MF), and no musical stimulation (NM) is conducted on a sample of 20 idiopathic Parkinsonian patients in a randomized cross-over design. Each patient has the task to walk for six minutes for each condition, focusing on stride length. The patient is instructed to make long steps and is connected with a software that is able to rec…

Pupil dilation under constant illumination is a physiological marker where modulation is related to several cognitive functions involved in daily decision making. There is evidence for a role of pupil dilation change during decision-making tasks associated with uncertainty, reward-prediction errors and surprise. However, while some work suggests that pupil dilation is mainly modulated by reward predictions, others point out that this marker is related to uncertainty signaling and surprise. Supporting the latter hypothesis, the neural substrate of this marker is related to noradrenaline (NA) activity which has been also related to uncertainty signaling. In this work we aimed to test whether …
Muntlig och skriftlig feedback på gymnasienivå : en fallstudie
2016
Finnish EFL learners' perceptions on errors, corrective feedback and foreign language anxiety
2012
Virheiden merkitys vieraiden kielten oppimisessa on tunnustettu aina 1970-luvulta lähtien, jolloin virheet alettiin nähdä välttämättömänä osana kielen ja sen sääntöjen oppimista. Virheiden tekemiseen vieraan kielen opiskelussa liittyy oleellisena osana opettajan oppijoille antama korjaava palaute (corrective feedback). Opettajan ja oppilaan vuorovaikutuksen, jota korjaava palaute osaltaan edustaa, on kuitenkin todettu voivan aiheuttaa oppijoissa ahdistuneisuutta ja pelkoa (anxiety). Tässä tutkielmassa kartoitetaan, millaisia suullisia virheitä suomalaiset yhdeksäsluokkalaiset englannin kielen oppitunneilla tekevät ja miten noloina he niitä pitävät. Tarkoituksena on myös selvittää, miten he …
Feedback Linearizing Control of Induction Motor Considering Magnetic Saturation Effects
2015
This paper presents an input-output feedback linearization (FL) control technique for rotating induction motors, which takes into consideration the magnetic saturation of the iron core. Starting from a new formulation of the dynamic model taking into consideration the magnetic saturation expressed in a space-state form in the rotor-flux-oriented reference frame, the corresponding FL technique has been developed. To this aim, a particular care has been given to the choice of nonlinear functions interpolating the magnetic parameters versus the rotor magnetizing current and the corresponding magnetic characteristic. The proposed FL technique has been tested experimentally on a suitably develop…
Time-delay control for stabilization of the Shapovalov mid-size firm model
2020
Control and stabilization of irregular and unstable behavior of dynamic systems (including chaotic processes) are interdisciplinary problems of interest to a variety of scientific fields and applications. Using the control methods allows improvements in forecasting the dynamics of unstable economic processes and offers opportunities for governments, central banks, and other policy makers to modify the behaviour of the economic system to achieve its best performance. One effective method for control of chaos and computation of unstable periodic orbits (UPOs) is the unstable delay feedback control (UDFC) approach, suggested by K. Pyragas. This paper proposes the application of the Pyragas' me…
The Lorenz system : hidden boundary of practical stability and the Lyapunov dimension
2020
On the example of the famous Lorenz system, the difficulties and opportunities of reliable numerical analysis of chaotic dynamical systems are discussed in this article. For the Lorenz system, the boundaries of global stability are estimated and the difficulties of numerically studying the birth of self-excited and hidden attractors, caused by the loss of global stability, are discussed. The problem of reliable numerical computation of the finite-time Lyapunov dimension along the trajectories over large time intervals is discussed. Estimating the Lyapunov dimension of attractors via the Pyragas time-delayed feedback control technique and the Leonov method is demonstrated. Taking into accoun…
Might as well jump: Sound affects muscle activation in skateboarding
2014
The aim of the study is to reveal the role of sound in action anticipation and performance, and to test whether the level of precision in action planning and execution is related to the level of sensorimotor skills and experience that listeners possess about a specific action. Individuals ranging from 18 to 75 years of age - some of them without any skills in skateboarding and others experts in this sport - were compared in their ability to anticipate and simulate a skateboarding jump by listening to the sound it produces. Only skaters were able to modulate the forces underfoot and to apply muscle synergies that closely resembled the ones that a skater would use if actually jumping on a ska…
Mediadores psicológicos y motivación deportiva en judocas españoles. Psychological mediators and sport motivation in Spanish judokas.
2006
