Numerical investigations of single mode gyrotron equation

2009

A stationary problem with the integral boundary condition arising in the mathematical modelling of a gyrotron is numerically investigated. The Chebyshev's polynomials of the second kind are used as the tool of calculations. The main result with physical meaning is the possibility to determine the maximal value of electrons efficiency. New Lignocellulosic Aristida adscensionis Fibers as Novel Reinforcement for Composite Materials: Extraction, Characterization and Weibull Distributio…

2019

In this research, the Aristida adscensionis fibers (AAFs) were taken out from the plants and its fundamental properties anlayzed for the first time. The AAFs were characterized and compared with other natural fibers by the use of physico-chemical analysis and various characterization techniques such as FT-IR, XRD, NMR, TGA, SEM and AFM. Chemical analysis showed that A. adscensionis fibers have a high cellulose content of 70.78% whereas the contents of lignin and wax are equal to 8.91% and 2.26%, respectively. The FT-IR, XRD and NMR analysis confirmed that AAFs are rich in cellulose content with CI and CS equal to 58.9% and 11.5 nm, respectively. Pycnometer analysis allowed to estimate a den…

Energy transfer rates and pathways of single donor chromophores in a multichromophoric dendrimer built around a central acceptor core.

2004

An artificial light-harvesting dendrimer showing highly efficient electronic excitation energy transfer from four peripheral donors to one central acceptor has been investigated by single-molecule spectroscopy at low temperatures. Confocal imaging in combination with frequency selective excitation spectroscopy gives direct access to energy transfer rates of individual donors and allows the determination of energy transfer pathways within a single multichromophoric aggregate.

Ytterbium-doped fibers for high-power fiber lasers

2021

Ytterbium (Yb) doped optical fibers are widely used in high-power applications and ultrafast lasing since they show adequate power-handling capability and provide desirable beam quality. Yb-doped fibers with large core area can support high power but often act as a multimode fiber and compromise the output beam quality. Hence, it is important to attain a proper balance between the power-handling capability and the beam quality. Yb-doped fibers as a gain medium in pulsed fiber laser systems are prone to nonlinear optical effects due to the presence of high peak power in the ultrashort pulses. Nonlinearity such as self phase modulation (SPM) affects the width and the shape of the pulse, both …

Diversity-Oriented Synthesis of Highly Functionalized Alicycles across Dipolar Cycloaddition/Metathesis Reaction

2021

AbstractThis Account gives an insight into the selective functionalization of some readily available commercial cyclodienes across simple chemical transformations into functionalized small-molecular scaffolds. The syntheses involved selective cycloadditions, followed by ring-opening metathesis (ROM) of the resulting azetidin-2-one derivatives or isoxazoline frameworks and selective cross metathesis (CM) by discrimination of the C=C bonds on the alkenylated heterocycles. The CM protocols have been described when investigated under various conditions with the purpose on exploring chemodifferentiation of the olefin bonds and a study on the access of the corresponding functionalized β-lactam or…

Association between cingulum bundle structure and cognitive performance: an observational study in major depression.

2009

AbstractBackgroundMajor depression can be regarded as a systemic neurobehavioral disorder resulting from dysfunction of the limbic-cortical networks. The cingulum bundle represents a major association fiber tract of those networks. The aim of our study was to determine the association of brain structural tissue markers of the cingulum bundle and cognitive function in patients with major depression.MethodsRegion-of-interest-based analyses of the middle-anterior and middle-posterior cingulum bundle fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) using color-coded diffusion-tensor imaging and neuropsychological assessment in 14 patients with major depression.ResultsFA of the middle-anteri…

ChemInform Abstract: First Synthesis of Medium-Sized Ring Allenyl Lactams.

2012

Medium-sized lactams bearing an axially chiral allene unit have been synthesized by using an aza-ketene Claisen rearrangement. Starting from 2-alkynylpiperidines or 2-alkynylazepines, ring enlargement enabled the highly diastereoselective formation of 10- or 11-membered lactams with a 4,5-allene subunit. X-ray analysis of the allenylacezinone showed the presence of a strained cumulated olefin system with a defined arrangement of the functional groups. The cyclic allenes were found to be stable upon heating up to 50 °C.

Multicenter stability of diffusion tensor imaging measures: a European clinical and physical phantom study.

2011

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) detects white matter damage in neuro-psychiatric disorders, but data on reliability of DTI measures across more than two scanners are still missing. In this study we assessed multicenter reproducibility of DTI acquisitions based on a physical phantom as well as brain scans across 16 scanners. In addition, we performed DTI scans in a group of 26 patients with clinically probable Alzheimer's disease (AD) and 12 healthy elderly controls at one single center. We determined the variability of fractional anisotropy (FA) measures using manually placed regions of interest as well as automated tract based spatial statistics and deformation based analysis. The coefficie…

Regulation of type IV collagen gene expression and degradation in fast and slow muscles during dexamethasone treatment and exercise.

2003

Glucocorticoids have anti-anabolic effects on many tissues and can cause muscle atrophy. However, their effects on type IV collagen gene expression and degradation in skeletal muscle have not been studied previously. Rats were treated daily with dexamethasone or saline. Half the groups of experimental and control animals were also subjected to daily endurance or uphill running exercise to determine the possible preventive effects of exercise. After an experimental period of 3 or 10 days, the extensor digitorum longus, soleus and tibialis anterior muscles were studied. Dexamethasone treatment for 10 days reduced muscle weight and type IV collagen mRNA abundance in all muscles. Gene expressio…
