When the Grafting of Double Decker Phthalocyanines on Si(100)-2 × 1 Partly Affects the Molecular Electronic Structure

International audience; A combined X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and density functional theory (DFT) study has been performed to characterize the adsorbate interaction of lutetium biphthalocyanine (LuPc2) molecules on the Si(100)-2 × 1 surface. Large molecule–substrate adsorption energies are computed and are found to compete with the molecule–molecule interactions of the double decker molecules. A particularly good matching between STM images and computed ones confirms the deformation of the molecule upon the absorption process. Single-molecule magnet properties of a monometallic dysprosium pentalene complex

The pentalene-ligated dysprosium complex [(η8-Pn†)Dy(Cp*)] (1Dy) (Pn† = [1,4-(iPr3Si)2C8H4]2−) and its magnetically dilute analogue are single-molecule magnets, with energy barriers of 245 cm−1. Whilst the [Cp*]− ligand in 1Dy provides a strong axial crystal field, the overall axiality of this system is attenuated by the unusual folded structure of the [Pn†]2− ligand. peerReviewed

Magnetization Dynamics in Proximity-Coupled Superconductor-Ferromagnet-Superconductor Multilayers

In this work, magnetization dynamics is studied in superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor three-layered films in a wide frequency, field, and temperature ranges using the broad-band ferromagnetic resonance measurement technique. It is shown that in presence of both superconducting layers and of superconducting proximity at both superconductor/ferromagnet interfaces a massive shift of the ferromagnetic resonance to higher frequencies emerges. The phenomenon is robust and essentially long-range: it has been observed for a set of samples with the thickness of ferromagnetic layer in the range from tens up to hundreds of nanometers. Asymptotic modeling of electrochemical signaling: Testing Zn in urine for non-invasive bladder cancer diagnosis

Abstract A theoretical model on chemical signaling for diagnosis based on the combination of signals for marker and inert and/or interfering metabolites is described. The model yields asymptotic relationships between the intensities of the signals representative of marker and accompanying metabolites compensating concentration fluctuations. The model fits well with voltammetric features associated to the oxidation of different urine metabolites and Zn(II) reduction in the same urine samples after alkaline digestion. Detection and characterization of intraorbital foreign bodies (IFB) is fundamental in acute trauma setting, preventing inflammatory sequelae or complications related to IFB movements when a MRI study is planned. Papers concerning plain film and CT sensibility in IFB detection show controversial results. For this reason we investigated plain film, CT and MRI sensibility in the evaluation of IFB. For an in vitro model, specimens of dry and fresh wood, glass, iron, plastic and graphite were immersed in animal lard and in a 0.9 % sodium chloride plus 3.5 g/dl human serum albumin solution. Electrochemical detection and screening of bladder cancer recurrence using direct electrochemical analysis of urine: A non-invasive tool for diagnosis

Although detection of urothelial cell carcinoma (or bladder cancer, BC) can be performed via cytological, molecular and genetic marker tests on urine, cystoscopy, an invasive technique, still remains as the gold methodology in clinical practice. It is presented a non-invasive method for detecting BC recurrence consisting of a direct electrochemical test in urine combining voltammetric data at gold and glassy carbon electrodes.
