The Role of Elongational Flow in Morphology Modification of Polyethylene/OMMt Nanocomposite System
2011
The formulation of high-performance polymer based nanocomposites depend on many factors, such as polymeric matrix type, nanoparticle type, loading and morphology, affinity between the polymeric matrix and nanoparticles, presence of compatibilizer and processing conditions [1-4]. During the industrial processing the polymer based systems are subjected to two different processing flows, i.e. the shear and elongational flow. The shear flow plays a significant role in polyethylene/OMMt manufacture processing but it is not able to change the system morphology, while, the elongational flow, involved in spinning and film-blowing processing operations, can induce considerably clay morphology variat…
Ionic Liquids on Demand in Continuous Flow
2009
We report on the development of an alternative protocol for the facile, solvent-free synthesis of various novel imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) that affords highly pure products without the necessity of subsequent purification steps. The continuous approach is based on the combination of HPLC pumps with a micromixer and a capillary residence tube. Our system provides a high degree of control over the alkylation reactions due to a high surface-to-volume ratio and superior heat and mass transport. Within the scope of our studies, we focused on ionic liquids containing differently substituted phenyl rings and characterized these compounds with respect to further use for direct applicatio…
Ozone absorption in aqueous phenol solutions
1977
Abstract The rate of ozone absorption in aqueous solutions of phenol was measured in a wetted-wall laboratory absorber. The liquid and gas flow rates were fixed as well as the pH and temperature. The phenol concentration was varied in the range 2–300 ppm and the ozone partial pressure over an eight fold range. The gas phase resistance to mass transfer was determined by absorbing SO2 from an SO2N2 mixture in KOH aqueous solutions. The results have been interpreted by means of a simple kinetic assumption.
Charge-dependent flow and the search for the chiral magnetic wave in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV
2016
We report on measurements of a charge-dependent flow using a novel three-particle correlator with ALICE in Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and discuss the implications for observation of local parity violation and the chiral magnetic wave (CMW) in heavy-ion collisions. Charge-dependent flow is reported for different collision centralities as a function of the event charge asymmetry. While our results are in qualitative agreement with expectations based on the CMW, the nonzero signal observed in higher harmonics correlations indicates a possible significant background contribution. We also present results on a differential correlator, where the flow of positive and …
Relationship of choroidal thickness with pulsatile hemodynamics in essential hypertensive patients
2021
Controversy exists about the association of choroidal thickness (CTh) with blood pressure (BP) values. There is some evidence suggesting that central hemodynamics changes are associated with microvascular disease. Our study was aimed to assess the relationships between CTh and clinic and 24-h BP and between CTh and estimated 24-h aortic pulse pressure (aPP), 24-h aortic systolic BP (aSBP), and 24-h aortic augmentation index (aAIx) in a group of hypertensive patients. We enrolled 158 hypertensive subjects (mean age 48 ± 13 years) all of which underwent evaluation of the choroidal district by Swept-Source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) and 24-h BP monitoring, in order to measure periph…
(+)-(E)-Chrysanthenyl Acetate: A Molecule with Interesting Biological Properties Contained in the Anthemis secundiramea (Asteraceae) Flowers
2020
Anthemis secundiramea is a perennial herb native widespread throughout the Mediterranean basin. The oil obtained from the flowers of this plant has antimicrobial properties against gram-positive and -negative bacteria, and inhibits the biofilm formation. The extract of A. secundiramea also has antioxidant activity&mdash
Critical-state effects on microwave losses in type-II superconductors
2006
We discuss the microwave energy losses in superconductors in the critical state. The field-induced variations of the surface resistance are determined, in the framework of the Coffey and Clem model, by taking into account the distribution of the vortex magnetic field inside the sample. It is shown that the effects of the critical state cannot generally be disregarded to account for the experimental data. Results obtained in bulk niobium at low temperatures are quantitatively justified.
Renewable Energy Technologies for Economic Development
2020
Indonesian villages are facing dangerous condition. Every year, young people are deserting the villages. To overcome this problem, Tangsi Jaya hamlet, West Java, has been provided with 18 kW micro-hydro to supply electricity both to the community and to Small Processing Center for ground coffee production. Results of cash flow analysis for ground coffee in Tangsi Jaya hamlet, with total investment of IDR 110 750 000 and discount rate of 18 % for 5 yr. Banyumeneng I hamlet, Yogyakarta with an investment cost IDR 95 000 000 and production cost of IDR 34 195 000 yr–1 and the interest rate of 14 % yr–1, the payback period was estimated to be 3 yr with ROI of 40 %. PEST analysics indicate that t…
Elliptic flow of identified hadrons in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV
2015
The elliptic flow coefficient (v2) of identified particles in Pb-Pb collisions at √ sNN = 2.76 TeV was measured with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The results were obtained with the Scalar Product method, a two-particle correlation technique, using a pseudo-rapidity gap of |∆η| > 0.9 between the identified hadron under study and the reference particles. The v2 is reported for π ±, K±, K0 S , p+p, φ, Λ+Λ, Ξ −+Ξ + and Ω−+Ω + in several collision centralities. In the low transverse momentum (pT) region, pT 3 GeV/c. peerReviewed
