Les vies étudiantes : tendances et inégalités

2016

Inhibition of VEGF expression through blockade of Hif1a and STAT3 signalling mediates the anti-angiogenic effect of melatonin in HepG2 liver cancer c…

2013

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) growth relies on angiogenesis via vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) release. Hypoxia within tumour environment leads to intracellular stabilisation of hypoxia inducible factor 1 alpha (Hif1α) and signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT3). Melatonin induces apoptosis in HCC, and shows anti-angiogenic features in several tumours. In this study, we used human HepG2 liver cancer cells as an in vitro model to investigate the anti-angiogenic effects of melatonin. Methods: HepG2 cells were treated with melatonin under normoxic or CoCl2-induced hypoxia. Gene expression was analysed by RT–qPCR and western blot. Melatonin-induced anti-…

Arginine deficiency leads to impaired cofilin dephosphorylation in activated human T lymphocytes

2012

The amino acid arginine is fundamentally involved in the regulation of the immune response during infection, inflammatory diseases and tumor growth. Arginine deficiency (e.g. due to the myeloid cell enzyme arginase) inhibits proliferation and effector functions of activated T lymphocytes. Here, we studied intracellular mechanisms mediating this suppression of human T lymphocytes. Our proteomic analysis revealed an impaired dephosphorylation of the actin-binding protein cofilin upon T-cell activation in the absence of arginine. We show that this correlates with alteration of actin polymerization and impaired accumulation of CD2 and CD3 in the evolving immunological synapse in T cell-antigen …

Surface preparation by using laser cleaning in thermal spray

2008

International audience; Pulsed laser cleaning has emerged as a promising technology to challenge traditional surface preparation methods. This paper introduces the PROTAL(R) process, which combines an in situ pulsed laser cleaning with thermal spraying techniques. This laser surface preparation avoids some drawbacks of the traditional degreasing and sand-blasting stages prior to thermal spraying, which is especially meaningful for ductile and notch-sensitive materials. The laser induced phenomenon and the significant role of such laser irradiation in the coating deposition are presented. (C) 2008 Laser Institute of America.

Bezier curves approximation of triangularized surfaces using SVG

2006

This paper presents a technique to convert surfaces, obtained through a Data Dependent Triangulation, in Bezier Curves by using a Scalable Vector Graphics File format. The method starts from a Data Dependent Triangulation, traces a map of the boundaries present into the triangulation, using the characteristics of the triangles, then the estimated barycenters are connected, and a final conversion of the resulting polylines in curves is performed. After the curves have been estimated and closed the final representation is obtained by sorting the surfaces in a decreasing order. The proposed techniques have been compared with other raster to vector conversions in terms of perceptual quality.

SALMO and S3M: A Saliva Model and a Single Saliva Salt Model for Equilibrium Studies.

2014

A model of synthetic saliva (SALMO, SALiva MOdel) is proposed for its use as standard medium inin vitroequilibrium and speciation studies of real saliva. The concentrations come out from the literature analysis of the composition of both real saliva and synthetic saliva. The chief interactions of main inorganic components of saliva, as well as urea and amino acids, are taken into account on the basis of a complex formation model, which also considers the dependence of the stability constants of these species on ionic strength and temperature. These last features allow the modelling of the speciation of saliva in different physiological conditions deriving from processes like dilution, pH, a…

Rethinking Samir Amin’s legacy and the case for a political organization of the global justice movement

2019

Juego argues that the new Internationale’s “primary organizational function should be the global coordination of actions of progressive grassroots movements from country to country.” He calls for a ‘learning organization,’ where the new Internationale supports “a continuous dialogue between bottom-up and top-down approaches to decision-making.” He sees it as “[a]kin to a global coordinating council” meaning that it works to integrate and synthesize the “varying initiatives, campaigns, and mass actions at all geographical levels of membership” while remaining mindful of the “dialectics between reform and revolution.” The new Internationale must, moreover, be “grounded on a pragmatic understa…
