Application of time-dependent many-body perturbation theory to excitation spectra of selected finite model systems
2016
In this thesis, an approximate method introduced to solve time-dependent many-body problems known as time-dependent many-body perturbation theory is studied. Many-body perturbation theory for interacting electrons and phonons is reviewed. In particular, the electron propagator G and an unconventional two-component phonon propagator, which satisfy coupled integral Dyson equations, are introduced. In practice, the associated integral kernels known as the electron Σ and phonon self-energies need to be approximated. The conserving approximations known as the Hartree (-Fock) and the first and second Born approximations, which respect the continuity equation between the electron density and curren…
Numerical Magnitude Affects Accuracy but Not Precision of Temporal Judgments
2021
A Theory of Magnitude (ATOM) suggests that space, time, and quantities are processed through a generalized magnitude system. ATOM posits that task-irrelevant magnitudes interfere with the processing of task-relevant magnitudes as all the magnitudes are processed by a common system. Many behavioral and neuroimaging studies have found support in favor of a common magnitude processing system. However, it is largely unknown whether such cross-domain monotonic mapping arises from a change in the accuracy of the magnitude judgments or results from changes in precision of the processing of magnitude. Therefore, in the present study, we examined whether large numerical magnitude affects temporal ac…

Relationship between cladoceran (Crustacea) functional diversity and lake trophic gradients
2017
Functional diversity (FD) as a biodiversity measure has an explicit role in ecosystem functioning because the effects of environmental changes in ecosystems are determined by biological functions, such as feeding type and trophic position, of particular species. We evaluated the usability of functional characterization and FD of an aquatic keystone group (Crustacea: Cladocera) for enhancing the understanding of long-term lake functional responses to environmental changes. The aims were to separate ecologically significant functional groups, investigate succession of such functional groups during nutrient enrichment process and determine the relationship between FD and lake productivity usin…
Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference as Predictors of Disability in Nonagenarians : The Vitality 90+ Study
2017
Background Only scarce data exist on the association between obesity and disability in the oldest old. The purpose of this prospective study is to examine if body mass index and waist circumference (WC) are associated with incident mobility and activities of daily living (ADL) disability in nonagenarians. Methods We used longitudinal data from the Vitality 90+ Study, which is a population-based study conducted at the area of Tampere, Finland. Altogether 291 women and 134 men, aged 90–91 years, had measured data on body mass index and/or WC and did not have self-reported mobility or ADL disability at baseline. Incident mobility and ADL disability was followed-up on median 3.6 years (range 0.…
The Added Value of Remote Technology in Cardiac Rehabilitation on Physical Function, Anthropometrics, and Quality of Life: Cluster Randomized Control…
2023
Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) cause most deaths globally and can reduce quality of life (QoL) of rehabilitees with cardiac disease. The risk factors of CVDs are physical inactivity and increased BMI. With physical activity, it is possible to prevent CVDs, improve QoL, and help maintain a healthy body mass. Current literature shows the possibilities of digitalization and advanced technology in supporting independent self-rehabilitation. However, the interpretation of the results is complicated owing to the studies’ high heterogeneity. In addition, the added value of this technology has not been studied well, especially in cardiac rehabilitation. Objective We aimed to examine the…

Relationship between mild to moderate renal dysfunction and obstructive sleep apnea: Data from the European sleep apnea database
2013
The relationship between severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and kidney function was investigated in the European Sleep Apnea Database (ESADA), where clinical, sleep, and biochemical data of patients studied for suspected OSA in 24 sleep centres of 17 European countries are stored. After excluding patients with missing data or extremely high/low creatinine values, data from 8112 subjects (2328 female) with creatinine values ranging between 0.5 and 2.0 mg% were analyzed. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was obtained with the Modified Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) equation. Patients were subdivided into two groups: group 1 (n = 3709) studied by full polysomnography; group 2 (n…
Safety of hospital discharge before return of bowel function after elective colorectal surgery
2020
Ileus is common after colorectal surgery and is associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications. Identifying features of normal bowel recovery and the appropriateness for hospital discharge is challenging. This study explored the safety of hospital discharge before the return of bowel function.A prospective, multicentre cohort study was undertaken across an international collaborative network. Adult patients undergoing elective colorectal resection between January and April 2018 were included. The main outcome of interest was readmission to hospital within 30 days of surgery. The impact of discharge timing according to the return of bowel function was explored using multiva…
