Energy management of multi-carrier smart buildings for integrating local renewable energy systems

The proposed paper aims at defining a Building Management System (BMS) able to control energy flows inside a smart building integrated with various energy networks and Renewable Energy Resources (RES). The smart building envisaged in this work interacts with different energy carriers and is equipped with cogeneration and RES systems, as well as storage devices, which enable a certain degree of flexibility in the energy usage. The smart building is modelled as a multi-carrier hub, by defining the graphical and mathematical model of the building system. Art often provides valuable hints for technological innovations especially in the field of Image Processing and Computer Graphics. In this paper we survey in a unified framework several methods to transform raster input images into good quality mosaics. For each of the major different approaches in literature the paper reports a short description and a discussion of the most relevant issues. To complete the survey comparisons among the different techniques both in terms of visual quality and computational complexity are provided.

The paper illustrates an adaptive approach based on different topologies of artificial neural networks (ANNs) for the power energy output forecasting of photovoltaic (PV) modules. The analysis of the PV module’s power output needed detailed local climate data, which was collected by a dedicated weather monitoring system. Improving the Competency of Classifiers through Data Generation

This paper describes a hybrid approach in which sub-symbolic neural networks and symbolic machine learning algorithms are grouped into an ensemble of classifiers. Initially each classifier determines which portion of the data it is most competent in. The competency information is used to generated new data that are used for further training and prediction. The application of this approach in a difficult to learn domain shows an increase in the predictive power, in terms of the accuracy and level of competency of both the ensemble and the component classifiers.
A Laboratory Dust Generator Applying Vibration to Soil Sample: Mineralogical Study and Compositional Analyses

International audience; A laboratory study was carried out using a vibrating system (SyGAVib) to produce aerosols from four soils collected in the central Tunisian region around Sfax. The aim of this device is to mimic dust emission by natural wind erosion. Using compositional analysis, the dust produced was compared to (i) dust generated in a wind tunnel by the same soils, (ii) fine sieved and (iii) original bulk soils, and (iv) naturally occurring aerosol samples collected in the same area. The relative quartz content strongly decreases from bulk to fine soils, and again from fine soils to both wind tunnel and vibration‐generated aerosols. High-order harmonic generation via bound-bound transitions in an elliptically polarized laser field

We use a simplified five-level system to investigate the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) spectrum emitted by an atom driven by a linearly or elliptically polarized laser field. For this model, the Schrödinger equation is exactly analytically reduced to the system of ordinary differential equations, which is solved numerically. Studying the intensity and polarization of the emitted radiation, we find that under high laser ellipticity the harmonic emission is suppressed. However, the harmonic intensity typically depends nonmonotonously on the laser ellipticity. Such anomalous behavior is very pronounced for the resonant harmonic.
