A class of nilpotent Lie algebras admitting a compact subgroup of automorphisms
2017
Abstract The realification of the ( 2 n + 1 ) -dimensional complex Heisenberg Lie algebra is a ( 4 n + 2 ) -dimensional real nilpotent Lie algebra with a 2-dimensional commutator ideal coinciding with the centre, and admitting the compact algebra sp ( n ) of derivations. We investigate, in general, whether a real nilpotent Lie algebra with 2-dimensional commutator ideal coinciding with the centre admits a compact Lie algebra of derivations. This also gives us the occasion to revisit a series of classic results, with the expressed aim of attracting the interest of a broader audience.
The Action of the Symplectic Group Associated with a Quadratic Extension of Fields
1999
Abstract Given a quadratic extension L/K of fields and a regular alternating space (V, f) of finite dimension over L, we classify K-subspaces of V which do not split into the orthogonal sum of two proper K-subspaces. This allows one to determine the orbits of the group SpL(V, f) in the set of K-subspaces of V.
Caristi Type Selections of Multivalued Mappings
2015
Multivalued mappings and related selection theorems are fundamental tools in many branches of mathematics and applied sciences. In this paper we continue this theory and prove the existence of Caristi type selections for generalized multivalued contractions on complete metric spaces, by using some classes of functions. Also we prove fixed point and quasi-fixed point theorems.
Elementary (-1)-curves of P-3
2006
In this note we deal with rational curves in P^3 which are images of a line by means of a finite sequence of cubo-cubic Cremona transformations. We prove that these curves can always be obtained applying to the line a sequence of such transformations increasing at each step the degree of the curve. As a corollary we get a result about curves that can give speciality for linear systems of P^3.
A probabilistic meaning of certain quasinormal subgroups
2007
The role of the cyclic quasinormal subgroups has been recently described in groups both finite and infinite by S.Stonehewer and G.Zacher. This role can be better analyzed in the class of compact groups, obtaining restrictions for the probability that two randomly chosen elements commute. A generalization of Nadler fixed point theorem
2015
Jleli and Samet gave a new generalization of the Banach contraction principle in the setting of Branciari metric spaces [Jleli, M. and Samet, B., A new generalization of the Banach contraction principle, J. Inequal. Appl., 2014:38 (2014)]. The purpose of this paper is to study the existence of fixed points for multivalued mappings, under a similar contractive condition, in the setting of complete metric spaces. Some examples are provided to illustrate the new theory.
Countably compact weakly Whyburn spaces
2015
The weak Whyburn property is a generalization of the classical sequential property that was studied by many authors. A space X is weakly Whyburn if for every non-closed set \({A \subset X}\) there is a subset \({B \subset A}\) such that \({\overline{B} \setminus A}\) is a singleton. We prove that every countably compact Urysohn space of cardinality smaller than the continuum is weakly Whyburn and show that, consistently, the Urysohn assumption is essential. We also give conditions for a (countably compact) weakly Whyburn space to be pseudoradial and construct a countably compact weakly Whyburn non-pseudoradial regular space, which solves a question asked by Angelo Bella in private communica…
Elements with square roots in compact groups
2010
The probability that a randomly chosen element has a square root is studied in [1, 2, 8] in the finite case. Here we deal with the infinite case.
Common fixed points of mappings satisfying implicit contractive conditions
2012
In this article we obtain, in the setting of metric spaces or ordered metric spaces, coincidence point, and common fixed point theorems for self-mappings in a general class of contractions defined by an implicit relation. Our results unify, extend, generalize many related common fixed point theorems from the literature. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 47H10, 54H25.
