THE STATE OF FRACTIONAL HEREDITARY MATERIALS (FHM)

2014

The widespread interest on the hereditary behavior of biological and bioinspired materials motivates deeper studies on their macroscopic ``minimal" state. The resulting integral equations for the detected relaxation and creep power-laws, of exponent $\beta$, are characterized by fractional operators. Here strains in $SBV_{loc}$ are considered to account for time-like jumps. Consistently, starting from stresses in $L_{loc}^{r}$, $r\in [1,\beta^{-1}], \, \, \beta\in(0,1)$ we reconstruct the corresponding strain by extending a result in [42]. The ``minimal" state is explored by showing that different histories delivering the same response are such that the fractional derivative of their differ…

Integration of PCL and PLA in a monolithic porous scaffold for interface tissue engineering.

2016

A novel bi-layered multiphasic scaffold (BLS) have been fabricated for the first time by combining melt mixing, compression molding and particulate leaching. One layer has been composed by polylactic acid (PLA) presenting pore size in the range of 90-110µm while the other layer has been made of polycaprolactone (PCL) with pores ranging from 5 to 40µm. The different chemo-physical properties of the two biopolymers combined with the tunable pore architecture permitted to realize monolithic functionally graded scaffolds engineered to be potentially used for interface tissues regenerations. BLS have been characterized from a morphological and a mechanical point of view. In particular, mechanica…

SVILUPPO DI SISTEMI CON STRUTTURE COMPLESSE A BASE BIOPOLIMERICA REALIZZATI ATTRAVERSO PROCESSI COMBINATI IN MULTI- O IN ONE-STEP

2022

*-Graded Capelli polynomials and their asymptotics

2022

Let [Formula: see text] be the free *-superalgebra over a field [Formula: see text] of characteristic zero and let [Formula: see text] be the [Formula: see text]-ideal generated by the set of the *-graded Capelli polynomials [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] alternating on [Formula: see text] symmetric variables of homogeneous degree zero, on [Formula: see text] skew variables of homogeneous degree zero, on [Formula: see text] symmetric variables of homogeneous degree one and on [Formula: see text] skew variables of homogeneous degree one, respectively. We study the asymptotic behavior of the sequence of *-graded codimensions of [Formula: se…

Polynomial codimension growth of graded algebras

2009

We study associative $G$-graded algebras with 1 of polynomial $G$-codimension growth, where $G$ is a finite group. For any fixed $k\geq 1,$ we construct associative $G$-graded algebras of upper triangular matrices whose $G$-codimension sequence is given asymptotically by a polynomial of degree $k$ whose leading coefficient is the largest or smallest possible.

Capelli identities on algebras with involution or graded involution

2022

We present recent results about Capelli polynomials with involution or graded involution and their asymptotics. In the associative case, the asymptotic equality between the codimensions of the T -ideal generated by the Capelli polynomial of rank k2 + 1 and the codimensions of the matrix algebra Mk(F) was proved. This result was extended to superalgebras. Recently, similar results have been determined by the authors in the case of algebras with involution and superalgebras with graded involution.

Progresses in multi-materials billet manufacturing out of metal scraps through friction stir consolidation

2023

Abstract. The evolution of Friction Stir Consolidation (FSC) from recycling towards upcycling technique proved to be one of the excellent solid-state methods for manufacturing functionally graded billets. Multi-material Functional Graded Materials (FGMs) represent a novel class of materials characterized by a gradual change in properties and functions which can be tailored to enhance components performance. Manufacturing techniques play a critical role in achieving the designed compositional and microstructural distribution. Specifically, FSC allows the manufacturing of FGM billets out of metallic chips; the mixing of different metallic chips offers mutually exclusive mechanical properties …

Ranking Scientific Journals Via Latent Class Models for Polytomous Item Response Data

2015

Summary We propose a model-based strategy for ranking scientific journals starting from a set of observed bibliometric indicators that represent imperfect measures of the unobserved ‘value’ of a journal. After discretizing the available indicators, we estimate an extended latent class model for polytomous item response data and use the estimated model to cluster journals. We illustrate our approach by using the data from the Italian research evaluation exercise that was carried out for the period 2004–2010, focusing on the set of journals that are considered relevant for the subarea statistics and financial mathematics. Using four bibliometric indicators (IF, IF5, AIS and the h-index), some…

An Operator Theoretical Approach to Enveloping ϕ* - and C* - Algebras of Melrose Algebras of Totally Characteristic Pseudodifferential Operators

1998

Let X be a compact manifold with boundary. It will be shown (Theorem 3.4) that the small Melrose algebra A≔ ϕb,cl (χ,bΩ1/2) (cf. [22], [23]) of classical, totally characteristic pseudodifferential operators carries no topology such that it is a topological algebra with an open group of invertible elements, in particular, the algebra A cannot be spectrally invariant in any C* – algebra. On the other hand, the symbolic structure of A can be extended continuously to the C* – algebra B generated by A as a subalgebra of ζ(σbL2(χ, bΩ1/2)) by a generalization of a method of Gohberg and Krupnik. Furthermore, A is densely embedded in a Frechet algebra A ⊆ B which is a ϕ* – algebra in the sense of Gr…
