VisAdapt: A Visualization Tool to Support Climate Change Adaptation.

2017

In this article we present the design and implementation of the web-based visualization tool VisAdapt, developed to support homeowners in the Nordic countries to assess anticipated climate change and climate related risks which are expected to negatively impact their living conditions. The tool guides the user through a three-step visual exploration process to facilitate the exploration of risks and adaptation measures, specifically adapted to the user. VisAdapt has been developed over the course of two years in close collaboration with domain experts and end users to ensure the validity of the included data and the efficiency of the visual interface. Although VisAdapt is designed for Nordi…

Capabilities and Affordances of Virtual Worlds for People with Lifelong Disability

2013

Using technology is of great value for people with lifelong disability (PWLD). The Internet can help PWLD to be more independent, to be socially active, and to participate in a range of activities. Virtual worlds (VWs) offer an environment with technology capabilities for interaction, rendering, and communication. The ability to take advantage of these capabilities may depend on the technology and the ability of the person utilizing it. Using a qualitative study we aimed to explore the differences of ability required to use these capabilities and make capabilities into affordances for PWLD. We found there were differences in PWLD’s ability to utilize the capabilities offered and conclude th…

Infoética y derechos humanos.

2009

Vertical Representation of C∞-words

2015

International audience; We present a new framework for dealing with C∞-words, based on their left and right frontiers. Thisallows us to give a compact representation of them, and to describe the set of C∞-words throughan infinite directed acyclic graph G. This graph is defined by a map acting on the frontiers ofC∞-words. We show that this map can be defined recursively and with no explicit reference toC∞-words. We then show that some important conjectures on C∞-words follow from analogousstatements on the structure of the graph G.

Perdersi. Note sul Labirinto

2022

The paper is inspired by a conversation of its author with Sandro Man- cini. Through a series of self-biographical notes, it tries to examine the topological gure of the labyrinth in some of its main mythical- symbolic, mathematical and conceptual articulations. Starting from a famous essay by Italo Calvino, i.e. La s da al labirinto, it seeks in par- ticular to discuss the works of Pierre Rosenstiehl, mathematician and philosopher to whom we owe some of the most re ned analyses on the subject of labyrinth. In the conclusions, after some other short intro- spective remarks, one aims at raising the necessity of more systematic and deepened investigations about this subject.

Layout algorithms of graph-like diagrams for GRADE windows graphic editors

1996

We propose a set of layout operations ensuring flexible and convenient interactive editing of communication diagrams and nested entity-relationship models having textual labels on connections. The set includes several procedures for incremental diagram layout. Tools for fully automatic layout and for direct manual painting of graphic primitives are also integrated in a single system. In this way we have filled to some extent the gap between both extremal levels of editing.

Nanostructured lead-acid negative electrode with reduced graphene oxide

2021

Aim of this work is to develop a new nano-structured and nano-composite lead acid negative electrode with reduced graphene oxide (rGO). Nanostructured electrodes are fabricated by template electrodeposition of lead nanowires on a lead current collector. A polycarbonate track-etched membrane was used as a template (200 nm mean pores diameter). rGO was deposited on the nanostructured electrode from a graphene oxide (GO) dispersion in acetate buffer solution (ABS) (0.2 g/L). Potentiostatic deposition of rGO at -0.8 V vs. standard calomel electrode (SCE) was performed. Electrode with rGO was tested as negative electrode in cell with 5M sulfuric acid solution, a commercial pasted positive plate,…

LEONARDO SONNOLI, MANY PARTICOULAR SIGNS

2006

Life of many men can simply be told by drawing lines on a map, so as to define a plot of paths and mark the borders of a new territory, where places are also performances of life's events, never before met, but lined up on a unique temporal plane. At the same way, Leonardo Sonnoli's professional and private life can be simply narrated by setting up connections of some cities, which has made him grow up as a man and a designer, in return for leaving a strong mark in himself. Trieste, a city at the boarding line between Italy and Slovene, where he was born and breathes an important graphical tradition, marked by several striking personalities, such as Dudovich and Metlicovitz. Independent Geometrical Control of Spin and Charge Resistances in Curved Spintronics

2019

Spintronic devices operating with pure spin currents represent a new paradigm in nanoelectronics, with higher energy efficiency and lower dissipation as compared to charge currents. This technology, however, will be viable only if the amount of spin current diffusing in a nanochannel can be tuned on demand while guaranteeing electrical compatibility with other device elements, to which it should be integrated in high-density three-dimensional architectures. Here, we address these two crucial milestones and demonstrate that pure spin currents can effectively propagate in metallic nanochannels with a three-dimensional curved geometry. Remarkably, the geometric design of the nanochannels can b…
