First record of the North American cryptic invader Ferrissia fragilis (Tryon, 1863) (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Planorbidae) in the Middle East

2014

Some gastropod specimens belonging to the planorbid genus Ferrissia were recently collected in Lebanon and in Iraq, where the autochthonous species Ferrissia clessiniana (Jickeli, 1882) is supposed to occur. The molecular identification of collected specimens proved that they belong to the allochthonous species Ferrissia fragilis (Tryon, 1863), the protagonist of a dramatic cryptic invasion which is of interest to the whole of Eurasia. These findings cast further doubts on the actual existence of autochthonous Ferrissia species in the Palaearctic. The need for a molecular characterisation of the topotypical population of F. clessiniana, and for a revision of the Palaearctic Ferrissia specie…

Electron and photon performance measurements with the ATLAS detector using the 2015-2017 LHC proton-proton collision data

2019

This paper describes the reconstruction of electrons and photons with the ATLAS detector, employed for measurements and searches exploiting the complete LHC Run 2 dataset. An improved energy clustering algorithm is introduced, and its implications for the measurement and identification of prompt electrons and photons are discussed in detail. Corrections and calibrations that affect performance, including energy calibration, identification and isolation efficiencies, and the measurement of the charge of reconstructed electron candidates are determined using up to 81 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data collected at √s=13 TeV between 2015 and 2017.

Biomechanical analysis of Ascending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm (ATAA)

2021

According to the reports of the World Health Organisation (WHO), cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death worldwide. Specifically, arterial disease and degeneration are the major reasons for cardiovascular death and disability. Because these diseases are dependent on the changes of the mechanical properties of the arterial wall, it is very important to know as much as possible about the structural composition of arteries. The human aorta is the biggest artery in the body and consists of three main parts, ascending aorta, aortic arch and descending aorta. The walls of the arteries consist of three layers, the intima, media and adventitia, where each of the layers has differe…

Multi-agent control architecture for RFID cyberphysical robotic systems initial validation of tagged objects detection and identification using Playe…

2016

International audience; The objective of this paper is to describe and validate a multi-agent architecture proposed to control RFID Cyber-Physical Robotic Systems. This environment may contain human operators, robots (mobiles, manipulators, mobile manipulators, etc.), places (workrooms, walls, etc.) and other objects (tables, chairs, etc.). The proposed control architecture is composed of two types of agents dispatched on two levels. We find at the Organization level a Supervisory agent to allow operators to configure, manage and interact with the overall control system. At the Control level, we distinguish the Robots agents, to each robot (mobiles, manipulators or mobile manipulators) is a…

Educational or emotional languages? An interactive experiment with the Lucanian flora (S-Italy)

2010

In the frame of dissemination activities for a still-in-progress work on the Sites of Community Importance (see EU Directive 92/43) of Basilicata (a region of Southern Italy), an interactive tool (IIT) for the identification of vascular plants growing there has been illustrated to two groups of people, following two different approaches: one focused on textual parts and on scientific accuracy, the other on images and on the visual comparison of different objects. The reactions were measured in terms of number of accesses to the IIT, elapsed time from the demonstration to the first individual access, and number of queries in the first week after the IIT was distributed. The most clicked opti…

Evaluation of CandiSelect4, a new chromogenic medium for isolation and presumptive identification of Candida species from clinical specimens

2008

Abstract In clinical laboratories, isolation of Candida species is generally based on the culture of specimens on Sabouraud dextrose agar. This strategy does not allow species identification on primary culture and makes it difficult to detect mixed cultures. Chromogenic media contain substrates that react specifically with different Candida species, and partly overcome these difficulties. Objectives The aim of this study was to compare two chromogenic media: (i) CandiSelect4 (C4), a new medium developed for direct identification of C. albicans and presumptive identification of C. krusei , C. tropicalis and C. glabrata (ii) CHROMagar Candida (CH), a medium licensed for direct identification …

Molecular Cytogenetics as a Tool for Primate Taxonomic identification: A Case Study in Captivity

2015

caratteristiche peculiari essendo notturne e monogame.

By examining current Cuban texts, this study analyzes a type of constructions which are proposed to be denominated 'emphatic sequences of identification with como'. It tries to explain these sequences as a peculiar linguistic construction by means of the description and interpretation of their morphosyntactic and semantic characteristics.

Laboratory measurements and astronomical search for the HSO radical

2016

[Context] Despite the fact that many sulfur-bearing molecules, ranging from simple diatomic species up to astronomical complex molecules, have been detected in the interstellar medium, the sulfur chemistry in space is largely unknown and a depletion in the abundance of S-containing species has been observed in the cold, dense interstellar medium. The chemical form of the missing sulfur has yet to be identified.
