The Role of Financial and Managerial Variables on the Policy towards Home-grown Players in English Soccer
2012
The training and development of young players both as athletes and individuals is one of the task soccer governing bodies assign to professional soccer team in order to fully exploit the social aspects of sport activities. Recently UEFA imposed new rules to improve the use of home-grown players. We analyze a panel data of English Premier and Championship league clubs for the seasons 2001-02 to 2005-06 in order to understand what clubs characteristics lead to the employment of young players in the team during official matches. Sport commercialization and the employment of star players have been considered harmful to this role. Our findings suggest that, counter-intuitively, economic and comm…
Cytosensing of cancer cells using antibody-based molecular imprinting: A short-review
2018
Abstract Rapid and effective differentiation between normal and cancer cells is an important objective for the diagnosis, prognosis and theranosis of tumors. This short review highlights some of the most recent developments on the application of molecular bioimprinting in detection of cancer cells using antibody-based cancer cell recognition method. The particular emphasis of this review is on sample-to-answer devices and approaches that enable down-stream investigation of the properties of the cells. Given the speed, portability, sensitivity and selectivity achieved using molecular bioimprinting technology on cancer cell monitoring, these methods hold the promise of transformative change i…
Network Dynamics of an Energy Supply Chain: Applicability of the Network Approach to Analysing the Industrial Ecology Practices of Companies
2006
Currently firms face environmental challenges, which require more emphasis on inter-organisational environmental improvement efforts. A field of study of industrial ecology offers some novel approaches for inter-organisational environmental management. It emphasises symbiotic linkages between firms or other organisations in which waste of one actor is used as raw material by others. The industrial network approach has been suggested as a possible framework for developing managerial implications for industrial ecology. This study analyses an example of an industrial ecosystem with notions of the network theory, and concludes that the industrial network approach is useful in analysing and des…

Sport and Quality of Life
2022

The Perception of Causality in Light of Process Ontology
2015
Human perception has an important emotional dimension. Besides having a “presentational” element that dominates the high cognitive activities of human beings, there are certain “densities of feelings,” which are inextricably intertwined with the presentational contents of our perceptual states. This does not mean that human perception is just instinctive, irrational, or intrinsically subjective. The Whiteheadian scheme allows us to determine the nature of the “emotional background” of perception without falling into the traps of subjectivism, representationalism, or substantialism. The feeling which I call “the sense of physicality” is just one of the elements of this emotional dimension in…
