Computed Tomography of HCC
2016
Contrast-enhanced CT allows an accurate noninvasive diagnosis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) nodules, and assessment of hepatic vascular anatomy and patency. The use of state-of-the-art equipment and of a tailored protocol is crucial. CT results help to detect and stage HCC, select the best treatment option, and evaluate response to therapy. In this chapter, the CT protocol for the cirrhotic liver, the CT features of HCC before and after treatment and of portal vein thrombosis will be described.
Mechanism of porous core electroosmotic pump flow injection system and its application to determination of chromium(VI) in waste-water.
1999
An electroosmotic pump flow injection system is introduced in this paper. According to electroosmotic theory, the pump's properties were described. A large flow range (mul min(-1)-ml min(-1)), moderate carrier pressure (0.15 MPa), reduced performance voltage (500 V) and stable flow rate (RSD3.0% in 4 h) are the main properties of the pump. NH(4)OH (0.35 mM) was used as carrier for improving the pump's flow stability. The electroosmotic efficiency of the pump's medium, porous core, can be recovered and regenerated. A sandwich zone was used for sample and reagent introduction in order to adapt to the pump performance. Flow injection-spectrophotometry was employed for the determination of Cr(V…
Kinetics of the early development of uniparental human haploid embryos
2016
Objective: To describe morphokinetically the early development of human haploid parthenotes and androgenotes and to compare them with euploid embryos. Design: Experimental study of kinetics. Setting: University-affiliated private fertility center. Patient(s): Experimental haploid parthenotes and androgenotes. Intervention(s): Kinetic study of early development (up to eight cells) of 8 parthenotes, 10 androgenotes, and 20 euploid embryos. Main Outcome Measure(s): Timing of the first seven cleavages determined according to embryo origin, then calculation of the duration of the second and third cell cycles (cc2 and cc3) of whole embryos and individual cells. Result(s): Parthenotes and androgen…
Retrograde Venenokklusion - Zur Therapie der verlogenen Impotenz
1993
Retrograde occlusion of penile drainage veins can produce improvement in patients with impotence due to venous leaks. We performed 50 transfemoral and three transjugular procedures; 46 (86%) were technically successful. Clinical improvement was found in 24 out of the 46 procedures (52%). In 20 patients spontaneous intercourse became possible, in four this occurred after intracavernous injection of vaso-active substances. In eleven patients there was deterioration after one to twenty months; in seven this was treated by repeated venous occlusion. In 13 patients improvement has been maintained over a period of one to thirty months (average 10.5 months). There were no complications.
A Decade of GRB Follow-Up by BOOTES in Spain (2003–2013)
2016
This article covers ten years of GRB follow-ups by the Spanish BOOTES stations: 71 follow-ups providing 23 detections. Follow-ups by BOOTES-1B from 2005 to 2008 were given in a previous article and are here reviewed and updated, and additional detection data points are included as the former article merely stated their existence. The all-sky cameras CASSANDRA have not yet detected any GRB optical afterglows, but limits are reported where available.
Compatibility of epirubicin-loaded DC bead™ with different non-ionic contrast media
2016
Purpose The aim of this study was to determine the compatibility of epirubicin-loaded DC bead™ with different non-ionic contrast media over a period of seven days when stored light protected under refrigerated conditions. Methods DC bead™ (2 ml) (Biocompatibles UK Ltd) of the bead size 70–150 µm ( = DC bead M1) or bead size 100–300 µm were loaded with 75 mg epirubicin powder formulation (Farmorubicin® dissolved in 3 ml water for injection to a concentration of 25 mg/ml) or 76 mg epirubicin injection solution (Epimedac® 2 mg/ml) within 2 h or 6 h, respectively. After removal of the excess solution, the epirubicin-loaded beads were mixed in polypropylene syringes with an equal volume (∼1.5 ml…
Assessment of the implantation of day-2 human embryos by morphometric nonsubjective parameters
2014
Objective: To demonstrate the usefulness of image analysis in designing objective embryonic morphometric variables. Design: Retrospective study of 214 top-quality day-2 embryo photographs from 50 double-embryo transfers resulting in no pregnancy (group 0) and 57 resulting in twin pregnancy (group 1). Setting: Human reproduction unit. Patient(s): Study of 107 in vitro fertilization intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF ICSI) cycles in women age<36 years with doubleembryo transfer of top-quality embryos. Only the first cycle of IVF ICSI was included. Intervention(s): Standard IVF ICSI protocols. Main Outcome Measure(s): The embryo photographs were analyzed using the ImageJ program. The effect…
Optical quality of hyperopic and myopic phakic intraocular lenses
2013
Aims: To assess and compare the optical quality of the myopic and hyperopic implantable collamer lens (ICL) from its wavefront aberrations for different powers and pupil diameters. Settings and Design: Prospective study. Material and Methods: The wavefront aberrations of two myopic (−3 and −6 diopters (D)) and two hyperopic V4b ICLs (+3 and +6D) were measured in vitro . To assess and compare the optical quality of different powers of ICLs, we analyzed the root mean square (RMS) of total higher order aberrations (HOAs), trefoil, coma, tetrafoil, secondary astigmatism, and spherical aberration at 3- and 4.5-mm pupil. In addition, the point spread functions (PSFs) of each ICL evaluated were ca…
Long-term Immune Response to Hepatitis B Virus Vaccination Regimens in Adults With Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized…
2016
International audience; IMPORTANCE:Data on long-term immune responses to hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination in adults with human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) infection are scarce.OBJECTIVE:To compare long-term (up to month 42) immune responses to the standard HBV vaccination regimen with a 4-injection intramuscular double-dose regimen and a 4-injection intradermal low-dose regimen.DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS:The phase 3, open-label, multicenter parallel-group (1:1:1 allocation ratio) randomized clinical trial was conducted from June 28, 2007, to October 23, 2008, at 33 centers in France. Participants included 437 HBV-seronegative adults with HIV-1 and CD4 cell counts of more than…
Zwitterionic Sulfonates as m/z Shift Reagents for 5-Methylcytosine Detection in Deoxyribonucleic Acids (DNA) Using Flow Injection Analysis and Electr…
2015
5-Methylcytosine (5-MC) is an important epigenetic modification of DNA. Abnormally high concentrations of this substance appear because of the hypermethylation of cytosine. Therefore, the measurement of the quantity of this compound in mammals is of great importance. Recently, we reported that several imidazolium-based zwitterionic sulfonates form complexes with 5-MC in solution, which can be studied by electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). It is shown in this paper that such an association can be utilised for the detection of 5-MC in a DNA sample using high-throughput a flow injection analysis ESI-MS method. A variety of the sulfonate zwitterions have been tested as m/ z shi…
