Antimicrobial and Antibiofilm Activity of a Recombinant Fragment of β-Thymosin of Sea Urchin Paracentrotus lividus

2018

With the aim to obtain new antimicrobials against important pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, we focused on antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) from Echinoderms. An example of such peptides is Paracentrin 1 (SP1), a chemically synthesised peptide fragment of a sea urchin thymosin. In the present paper, we report on the biological activity of a Paracentrin 1 derivative obtained by recombination. The recombinant paracentrin RP1, in comparison to the synthetic SP1, is 22 amino acids longer and it was considerably more active against the planktonic forms of S. aureus ATCC 25923 and P. aeruginosa ATCC 15442 at concentrations of 50 &micro

Metal Ions and Metal Complexes in Alzheimer's Disease.

2015

Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia that seriously affects daily life. Even if AD pathogenesis is still subject of debate, it is generally accepted that cerebral cortex plaques formed by aggregated amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides can be considered a characteristic pathological hallmark. It is well known that metal ions play an important role in the aggregation process of Aβ. Methods: This review focuses on the anti-Aβ aggregation activity of chelating ligands as well as on the use of metal complexes as diagnostic probes and as potential drugs. Conclusion: While chelating agents, such as curcumin or flavonoid derivatives, are currently used to capture metal ions …

Crystal structure, Hirshfeld analysis and molecular docking with the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 of (3Z)-5-fluoro-3-(hydroxyimino)i…

2017

The reaction between 5-fluoroisatin and hydroxylamine hydrochloride in acidic ethanol yields the title compound, C8H5FN2O2, whose molecular structure matches the asymmetric unit and is nearly planar with an r.m.s. deviation for the mean plane through all non-H atoms of 0.0363 Å. In the crystal, the molecules are linked by N—H...N, N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions into a two-dimensional network along the (100) plane, forming rings withR22(8) andR12(5) graph-set motifs. The crystal packing also features weak π–π interactions along the [100] direction [centroid-to-centroid distance 3.9860 (5) Å]. Additionally, the Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the major contributio…

Crystal structure of (3E)-5-nitro-3-(2-phenylhydrazinylidene)-1H-indol-2(3H)-one

2017

The reaction between 5-nitroisatin and phenylhydrazine in acidic ethanol yields the title compound, C14H10N4O3, whose molecular structure deviates slightly from a planar geometry (r.m.s. deviation = 0.065 Å for the mean plane through all non-H atoms). An intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond is present, forming a ring of graph-set motifS(6). In the crystal, molecules are linked by N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions into a two-dimensional network along (120), and rings of graph-set motifR22(8),R22(26) andR44(32) are observed. Additionally, a Hirshfeld surface analysis suggests that the molecules are stacked along [100] through C=O...Cginteractions and indicates that the most im…

The janus face of NKT cell function in autoimmunity and infectious diseases

2018

Natural killer T cells (NKT) are a subset of T lymphocytes bridging innate and adaptive immunity. These cells recognize self and microbial glycolipids bound to non-polymorphic and highly conserved CD1d molecules. Three NKT cell subsets, type I, II and NKT-like expressing different antigen receptors (TCR) were described and TCR activation promotes intracellular events leading to specific functional activities. NKT can exhibit different functions depending on the secretion of soluble molecules and the interaction with other cell types. NKT cells act as regulatory cells in the defence against infections but, on the other hand, their effector functions can be involved in the pathogenesis of sev…

Syntheses and properties of tetrathio- and tetraseleno metalates [(C5Me4R)2NbE2]2M (E=S, Se; M=Cr, Mo; R=Me, Et) with peripheric niobocene ligands

1998

Abstract Reactions of Cp*2Nb(η2-S2)H 1 (Cp*=C5Me5 (a), C5Me4Et (b)) and Cp*2Nb(η2-Se2H) 3 with 0.5 equivalents of M(CO)6 (M=Cr, Mo) in boiling toluene give the CO free complexes [Cp*2NbE2]2M 4–7. X-ray diffraction analyses have been carried out for the Mo complexes 5a (E=S) and 7a (E=Se) showing that the structures contain ME4 tetrahedral cores with two attached niobocene ligands thus forming a nearly linear trimetallic unit. Absorption spectra and electrochemical studies of complexes 4–7 are described. Characteristic of the novel CrSe4 chromophor are four reversible one electron redox steps. Chemical oxidation of 4a and 5a with [(C5H5)2Fe]PF6 gives the salts {[Cp*2NbS2]2M}PF6 (M=Cr, Mo) 10…

2009

Abstract Reactions of nBu2SnCl(L1) (1), where L1 = acid residue of 5-[(E)-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-diazenyl]quinolin-8-ol, with various substituted benzoic acids in refluxing toluene, in the presence of triethylamine, yielded dimeric mixed ligand di-n-butyltin(IV) complexes of composition [nBu2Sn(L1)(L2–6)]2 where L2 = benzene carboxylate (2), L3 = 2-[(E)-2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl)-1-diazenyl]benzoate (3), L4 = 5-[(E)-2-(4-methylphenyl)-1-diazenyl]-2-hydroxybenzoate (4), L5 = 2-{(E)-4-hydroxy-3-[(E)-4-chlorophenyliminomethyl]-phenyldiazenyl}benzoate (5) and L6 = 2-[(E)-(3-formyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-diazenyl]benzoate (6). All complexes (1–6) have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H,…

Desulfurization and ring opening of thiirane induced by tantalocene trihydride complexes: Synthesis, reactivity and X-ray structure of Cp′2Ta(=S)(S-i…

1999

The reaction of the tantalocene trihydride complexes Cp′ 2 TaH 3 1 (Cp′= η 5 -C 5 H 4 t Bu) or Cp″CpTaH 3 1′ (Cp″= η 5 -C 5 H 2 -1,2-Me 2 -4- t Bu) with propylene sulfide was found to proceed via an unprecedented sulfur transfer and regioselective ring opening reaction at once to yield sulfido-thiolato tantalocene complexes Cp′ 2 Ta(S)(S- i Pr) 2a whose structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography or Cp″CpTa(S)(S- i Pr) 2′a . Complex 1 reacts with ethylene sulfide to give Cp′ 2 Ta(S)(S–Et) 2b . The reactivity of 2a towards a variety of electrophilic moities has been investigated: protonation (with HBF 4 ) and alkylation (with MeI) reactions occur at the terminal sulfur ligand, …
