Description of the Interim Peculiarities of Mental Developmental and Learning Disturbances

2015

More and more pupils with special needs, including those with learning disturbances and simple mental developmental disturbances, are attending general comprehensive educational institution. It is often difficult in practice to define clearly and differentiate these two kinds of disturbances, especially in borderline cases or in the interim stage because then the features and manifestations of learning disturbances and simple mental developmental disturbances partly overlap and change. The novelty of the article is the analysis of the interim peculiarities and manifestations of these two disturbances which will allow teachers to understand better the main learning difficulties of such pupil…

EU Law Lecture Handouts

2018

The subject “Legal Institutions of the European Union” includes, to a great extent, the study of European Union (EU) Law. This legal order comprises not only the supranational normative aspects governing the structure and the internal functioning of the EU (its institutional system, the European legal order, its competences, etc.), but also its legal/political nature and the relationship of the EU with its Member States, as well as with third countries and other international organisations. This document labelled “EU Law Lecture Handouts” is essentially a short summary of each lesson, following the structure of the course official syllabus. This document also provides outlines and more visu…

Hybrid third sector organizations in Finland – Arts and cultural institutions in focus

2014

This article examines hybrid organizations in the field of culture. The main two objectives of the article are 1) to examine the differences between public theatre organizations and third sector theatre organizations and 2) to study hybrid theatres in relation to public and third sector organizations. Hybrid theatres are private as to their legal status, but under municipal control. First the theories and definitions of hybridity and the overlapping between sectors are summarized. Legally protected cultural goods and bankruptcy proceedings

2020

This paper deals with general problems of legal aims of bankruptcy proceedings in connection with the aims of heritage protection – issues built by completely different systems of values. Bankruptcy is designed for protecting pecuniary interest of a limited group of people, while cultural heritage is protected for present and future generations, despite its current commercial significance. In the global environment, bankruptcy of a cultural goods owner usually has a cross-border range but national bankruptcy legislations and laws devoted to heritage protection differ in very serious aspects. For this reason the paper is not limited to any concrete legal order. There are discussed some impor…

Using the Environmental Management System (EMS) to control the implementation and emergence the green strategies

2012

International audience; Over recent years, the Environmental Management System (EMS) has become one of the most recognized instruments for operationalizing the CSR concept in companies. The objective of this study is to analyze how this management system is used in companies when they implement the intended green strategies and explore the new green strategies. To achieve this objective, two theoretical frameworks are used: the new institutionalism in organizational analysis and the levers of control of business strategy. The research methodology is qualitative and is comprises of three phases: an exploratory study; a multi-sites case study; and a longitudinal study. The data are analyzed w…

Translations, Paratextual Mediation, and Ideological Closure

1996

Abstract: This article deals with the way so-called paratexts were used, in Finland in 1890-1939, in publishing translations of Anglo-American literature, and especially with the tendencies towards ideological closure that those paratexts manifest. The dominant ideology in the material is what could be called religious-conservative ideology, emphasizing the thought content of the works and their (educative, civilizing, sometimes also entertaining) impact on readers. This is due to the ideological unification process that penetrated the cultural institutions, which were still relatively undifferentiated and non-autonomous during the period in Finland. The article emphasizes that in studying …

“It was an awful mistake with that girl. Advise me what to do.” On Jaroslav Hašek’s bigamy

2020

In this article, Jaroslav Hašek’s bigamy will be discussed from two points of view – the biographical and legal ones. In almost every writer’s biography, the fact of his marrying two women is mentioned, but it is also quickly dismissed with only a few words of explanation. In the author’s opinion, after almost a hundred years following Hašek’s death, the case of his bigamy deserves proper interpretation.

Novel Stability Criteria for T--S Fuzzy Systems

2014

In this paper, novel stability conditions for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems are presented. The so-called nonquadratic membership-dependent Lyapunov function is first proposed, which is formulated in a higher order form of both the system states and the normalized membership functions than existing techniques in the literature. Then, new membership-dependent stability conditions are developed by the new Lyapunov function approach. It is shown that the conservativeness of the obtained criteria can be further reduced as the degree of the Lyapunov function increases. Two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and less conservativeness of the obtained theoretical resul…
