Development of a Native Cross-Platform iRODS GUI Client

This paper describes activities on the research IT infrastructure development project at the University of Jyväskylä. The main contribution is a cross-platform iRODS client application with a rich graphical user interface. The client application is fully native and builds from a single C++ codebase on all of the platforms on which iRODS 4.0 is supported. The application has a responsive UI with native look & feel and enables drag & drop integration to the desktop. This paper deals with the design and implementation of a visual control of a robotic system composed of a dexterous hand and video camera. The aim of the proposed system is to reproduce the movements of a human hand in order to learn complex manipulation tasks or to interact with the user. A novel algorithm for robust and fast fingertips localization and tracking is presented. A suitable kinematic hand model is adopted to achieve a fast and acceptable solution to an inverse kinematics problem. Assisting immersive virtual reality development with user experience design approach

In our study we explored how to design a biography of a late Finnish artist as a VR experience. We conducted a development process assisted by user experience (UX) design methods, which increased the process efficiency, and resulted in a research prototype. Through previous research and our development process, we identified components affecting the user experience. These components are: Immersion, Presence, Disorientation, Sense of Control, Pleasantness, Exploration and Simulator Sickness. The effects of alternative navigation device display features on drivers' visual sampling efficiency while searching forpoints of interest were studied in two driving simulation experiments with 40 participants. Given that the number of display items was sufficient, display features that facilitate resumption of visual search following interruptions were expected to lead to more consistent in-vehicle glance durations. As predicted, compared with a grid-style menu, searching information in a list-style menu while driving led to smaller variance in durations of in-vehicle glances, in particular with nine item displays. The self-assembly of the oppositely charged water-soluble porphyrins, cobalt tetramethylpyridinium porphyrin (CoTMPyP(4+)) and cobalt tetrasulphonatophenyl porphyrin (CoTPPS(4-)), at the interface with an organic solvent to form molecular "rafts", provides an excellent catalyst to perform the interfacial four-electron reduction of oxygen by lipophilic electron donors such as tetrathiafulvalene (TTF). The catalytic activity and selectivity of the self-assembled catalyst toward the four-electron pathway was found to be as good as that of the Pacman type cofacial cobalt porphyrins. Effect of air on oxygen p-doped graphene on SiO2

Stability in ambient air or in vacuum-controlled atmosphere of molecular oxygen-induced p-type doping of graphene monolayer on SiO2 substrate on Si is investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The Raman 2D and G bands spectral positions and amplitude ratio are affected by the permanence in air atmosphere in a time scale of months whereas the vacuum safely maintains the doping effects determined through Raman bands. No morphological effects are induced by the doping and post-doping treatments. A reactivity of ambient molecular gas with stably trapped oxygen is suggested to induce the doping modification. Production of Phosphorescent Coatings on 6082 Aluminum Using Sr0.95Eu0.02Dy0.03Al2O4-δ Powder and Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation

In this study, a new approach for producing phosphorescent aluminum coatings was studied. Using the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process, a porous oxide coating was produced on the Al6082 aluminum alloy substrate. Afterwards, activated strontium aluminate (SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+) powder was filled into the cavities and pores of the PEO coating, which resulted in a surface that exhibits long-lasting luminescence. The structural and optical properties were studied using XRD, SEM, and photoluminescence measurements.
