A touchless gestural system for extended information access within a campus

In the last two decades, we have witnessed a growing spread of touchless interfaces, facilitated by higher performances of computational systems, as well as the increased availability of cheaper sensors and devices. Putting the focus on gestural input, several researchers and designers used Kinect-like devices to implement touchless gestural interfaces. The latter extends the possible deployments and usage of public interactive displays. For example, wall-sized displays may become interactive even if they are unreachable by touch. Touchless Interfaces For Public Displays

Public displays have lately become ubiquitous thanks to the decreasing cost of such technology and public policies supporting the development of smart cities. Depending on form factor, those displays might use touchless gestural interfaces that therefore are becoming more often the subject of public and private research. Evaluation of a Visual Tool for Early Patent Infringement Detection During Design

Patent infringement detection usually implies research among documents in different forms, in both natural and unstructured language, often involving a lot of human resources and time. In order to ease this patent check process, we previously presented a visual tool to be used by designers themselves at any stage of the design process, providing them with useful and reliable information for deciding whether to steer their design away from potential patent infringements. The problem of interoperability: A common data format for quantum chemistry codes

A common format for quantum chemistry (QC), enhancing code interoperability and communication between different programs, has been designed and implemented. An XML-based format, QC-ML, is presented for representing quantities such as geometry, basis set, and so on, while an HDF5-based format is presented for the storage of large binary data files. Some preliminary applications that use the format have been implemented and are also described. Enhanced Reflectivity Change and Phase Shift of Polarized Light: Double Parameter Multilayer Sensor

Herein, the concept of point of darkness based on polarized light phase difference and absorption of light is demonstrated by simulations using low refractive index and extinction coefficient semiconductor and dielectric, and high refractive index nonoxidizing metal multilayer thin film structures. Several multilayer sensor configurations show great sensitivity to thickness and refractive index variation of the detectable material by measuring the reflectivity ratio {\Psi} and phase shift {\Delta}. Antiferromagnetic materials feature intrinsic ultrafast spin dynamics, making them ideal candidates for future magnonic devices operating at THz frequencies. A major focus of current research is the investigation of optical methods for the efficient generation of coherent magnons in antiferromagnetic insulators. Utilization of superconducting materials for the new generation of nanoelectronic devices seems extremely tempting from the point of view of the absence of Joule heating. However, in small systems, the role of fluctuations can be very significant. In this work, the transport properties of thin superconducting titanium nanostructures were studied experimentally and theoretically. It has been shown that quantum fluctuations of the order parameter have a dif-ferent impact on integral and local characteristics of a quasi-one-dimensional superconductor. Abstract The transport properties of two types of quasi-one-dimensional superconducting microstructures were investigated at ultra-low temperatures: the narrow channels close-packed in the shape of meander, and the chains of tunneling contacts “superconductor-insulator-superconductor.” Both types of the microstructures demonstrated high value of high-frequency impedance and-or the dynamic resistance. The study opens up potential for using of such structures as current stabilizing elements with zero dissipation.

Valence band photoemission from thin iron films - A comparison of experimental and theoretical results

Abstract In this contribution, we report on photoemission data from thin iron films on W(110) that have been carried out by means of spin-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy as well as Magnetic Circular Dichroism in valence band photoemission at the storage ring BESSY. These techniques give complementary information on the electronic and magnetic properties, such as exchange and spin–orbit splitting. We compare our experimental data to new photoemission calculations, which have been obtained in the framework of a fully relativistic one-step theory for ferromagnetic materials.

Competition between submonolayer ordering and multilayer adsorption: Studies of simple lattice gas models

Abstract We model condensation of adatoms at a substrate surface by a semi-infinite simple cubic lattice gas system. While in the bulk there is just a nearest-neighbour attractive interaction, in the first layer adjacent to the surface we allow for a periodic potential due to the substrate with a period of two lattice spacings, or for a next-nearest-neighbour repulsive interaction mediated by the substrate. Hence order-disorder phenomena may occur in the first layer, while only gas-liquid condensation transitions can occur in layers further away from the substrate surface.
