ROLE OF ENDOVASCULAR EMBOLIZATION IN THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY MANAGEMENT OF RUPTURED BRAIN ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATIONS

Brain arteriovenous malformations (bAVMs) are congenital defects of vasculogenesis, the natural history of which is characterized by a significant morbidity and mortality related to the risk of bleeding. Their management remains challenging, since complete eradication is often difficult. Embolization, surgery, or radiosurgery alone are safe and effective for small unruptured AVMs, while a multidisciplinary approach should be pursued for larger ones. We report a case of intracerebral haemorrhage due to the rupture of a large bAVM, for which a multidisciplinary approach was adopted: endovascular partial embolization followed by complete surgical removal.

Purpose: Treating liver tumors using Focused Ultrasound (FUS) is a great challenge. Prior to human applications, an in-vivo animal trial using the TRANS-FUSIMO treatment system (TTS) is ongoing in order to evaluate the safety and the technical efficacy and efficiency of generating predefined necrotic lesions. Background Semisynthetic collagen matrices are promising duraplasty grafts with low risk of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fistulas, good tissue integration and minor foreign body reaction. The present study investigates the efficacy and biocompatibility of a novel semisynthetic bilayered collagen matrix (BCM, B. Braun Aesculap) as dural onlay graft for duraplasty. Abstract Introduction Hepatic abscess can be defined as an encapsulated collection of suppurative material within the liver parenchyma. Hepatic abscess can be distinguished as pyogenic, amebic, or fungal. Biliary tract disease remains the most common cause of hepatic abscess today, and the most common complications range from pleural effusion, empyema, and bronchohepatic fistula to subphrenic abscess and rupture into the peritoneal cavity, stomach, colon, vena cava, or kidney. Acute aortic dissection

An acute aortic syndrome with simultaneous presence of a penetrating aortic ulcer, an intramural haematoma, a thoracic aortic dissection and an abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture has not previously been reported. Herein, we describe our experience with a patient treated by endovascular means with an 8-year follow-up.

Transcatheter Embolization, also called Embolotherapy, is a mini-invasive, non-surgical therapeutic solution used in Interventional Radiology to close blood vessels deliberately. A wide range of embolic agents is available in clinical practice, including metal coils and liquid agents. More recent advances in biomaterials such as shape-memory foam and in-situ gelling solutions have led to the development of new pre-clinical embolic agents. This review offers a brief overview of current and emerging technologies in the field of endovascular embolization. The focus is on devices, materials and techniques.

Radiation doses received by interventional radiologists can vary for the same type of procedure and for similar patient doses.
