Spin and Magnetic Moment ofMg33: Evidence for a Negative-Parity Intruder Ground State

2007

We report on the first determination of the nuclear ground-state spin of $^{33}\mathrm{Mg}$, $I=3/2$, and its magnetic moment, $\ensuremath{\mu}=\ensuremath{-}0.7456(5)\text{ }{\ensuremath{\mu}}_{N}$, by combining laser spectroscopy with nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. These values are inconsistent with an earlier suggested 1 particle-1 hole configuration and provide evidence for a 2 particle-2 hole intruder ground state with negative parity. The results are in agreement with an odd-neutron occupation of the $3/2\text{ }[321]$ Nilsson orbital at a large prolate deformation. The discussion emphasizes the need of further theoretical and experimental investigation of the island of inver…

Study of Southern Tyrrhenian and Sicilian regions by a sequential procedure to integrate WAM seismic tomographies and Bouguer anomaly data

2009

A procedure to obtain 3D velocity-density models and earthquake relocation by integrated inversion of P and S wave traveltimes and Bouguer anomaly distribution was applied to a large dataset concerning the Southern Tyrrhenian and Sicilian areas. The seismic dataset was subdivided into two subsets for separate inversions, whose results were later on joined by the WAM (Weighted Average Model) technique. This is a post-processing technique proposed by Calò et al. (2009) by which preliminary tomographic models are unified in a common 3D grid. The first dataset concerns 28873 P and 9990 S arrival times of 1800 earthquakes located in the area 14°30′ E - 17°E, 37°N - 41°N while the second dataset …

A new pericentric inv(8) in acute nonlymphocytic leukemia.

1993

Abstract Chromosome studies were carried out on unstimulated bone marrow cells from a patient with a diagnosis of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (FAB M6 ANLL). Cytogenetic analysis revealed a mosaic chromosome pattern 46,XX46,XX,inv(8)(p21q24). This pericentric inversion has not been previously described in ANLL. Because, fragile sites, zinc finger gene loci, and the MYC protooncogene have been localized to band 8q24, a putative role for these sites and genes could be considered.

Functional impact and evolution of a novel human polymorphic inversion that disrupts a gene and creates a fusion transcript

2015

Despite many years of study into inversions, very little is known about their functional consequences, especially in humans. A common hypothesis is that the selective value of inversions stems in part from their effects on nearby genes, although evidence of this in natural populations is almost nonexistent. Here we present a global analysis of a new 415-kb polymorphic inversion that is among the longest ones found in humans and is the first with clear position effects. This inversion is located in chromosome 19 and has been generated by non-homologous end joining between blocks of transposable elements with low identity. PCR genotyping in 541 individuals from eight different human populatio…

Comparison of Crop Trait Retrieval Strategies Using UAV-Based VNIR Hyperspectral Imaging.

2021

Hyperspectral cameras onboard unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have recently emerged for monitoring crop traits at the sub-field scale. Different physical, statistical, and hybrid methods for crop trait retrieval have been developed. However, spectra collected from UAVs can be confounded by various issues, including illumination variation throughout the crop growing season, the effect of which on the retrieval performance is not well understood at present. In this study, four retrieval methods are compared, in terms of retrieving the leaf area index (LAI), fractional vegetation cover (fCover), and canopy chlorophyll content (CCC) of potato plants over an agricultural field for six dates duri…

Structural study of ethyl 3-arylcarbamoyl-2,3-diazabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2-carboxylates: conformation and transmission of substituent effects acro…

2001

Nine new ethyl 3-arylcarbamoyl-2,3-diazabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2-carboxylates were prepared by a [4 + 2] cycloaddition and their FTIR, 1H, 13C and 15N NMR spectra were measured and assigned. Single crystals were grown for five compounds and their X-ray data were obtained. The electronic structure and the conformations were calculated by the semi-empirical AM1 method. Using correlations between the spectral, empirical and theoretical structural data, the transmission of substituent effects and the preferential conformation connected with the consecutive double nitrogen inversion and regarding the mutual orientation of NH and CO bonds were investigated. The results are compared with those f…

Evolution of the Human chromosome 7: new information from the mapping of William-Breuren locus on non human primates chromosomes.

2004

Human chromosome 7 (HSA7) derives, by a pericentric inversion and a paracentric inversion, from an ancestral chromosome homologous to chromosome 10 of Pongo pygmaeus (the Asiatic Orang-Utan). Nevertheless the genesis of this autosome during primates evolution is not clear. Even if chromosome painting shows that HAS 7 synteny is highly conserved, GTG-banding comparison in Hominoidea and Cercopithecoidea indicates the probable occurrence of complex rearrangements during the evolution. In this study we used a single locus FISH approach, a powerful tool to detect fine rearrangements, in order to investigate the evolution of HAS 7. We report the chromosome mapping of Williams-Beuren syndrome loc…

MR imaging of bilateral paramedian thalamic and mesencephalic infarcts: A case report

2010

We describe MR imaging of bilateral infarction of the paramedian portion of the mesencephalus and thalamus due to an occlusion of the Percheron artery. This entity is due to one of the anatomic variants of the perforating arteries supplying the thalamus and mesenchephalus. Clinically this kind of infarction presents with neurologic impairment as a disorder of consciousness, memory dysfunctions, various types of vertical gaze palsy and psychic changes, which need to be differentiated from delirium and coma. At MRI evaluation infarction of the paramedian portion of thalami and midbrain, with a “butterfly wings” pattern, was demonstrated as high signal intensity areas on FLAIR and FSE-T2W ima…

Jaynes-Cummings model with atomic position distribution

1995

The position as well as the width of the atomic wave packet passing through an optical cavity may affect the matter-field interaction. As a result, the internal dynamics of a two-level atom, such as the Rabi oscillations or the collapse and revival phenomenon, may be strongly modified with respect to the standard Jaynes-Cummings model. In particular, for a sufficiently large spread of the atomic position, the atomic population inversion displays the characteristic ringing behavior of the Bessel function ${\mathit{J}}_{0}$ differently from the usual full Rabi oscillation.
