Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Mimicking Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (MRONJ): A Case Series
2021
(1) Background: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a potential adverse drug reaction of antiresorptive and/or antiangiogenic treatment. MRONJ is mostly diagnosed by anamnestic data, clinical examination and radiological findings, with signs and symptoms often unspecific. On the other hand, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is characteristic for its pleomorphic appearance (e.g., ulcer, mucous dehiscence, non-healing post-extractive socket). We report three cases where OSCC mimicked MRONJ lesions. (2) Patients: Three patients undergoing amino-bisphosphonate treatment for osteoporosis presented with areas of intraorally exposed jawbone and unspecific radiological signs co…
Reduction rate by decompression as a treatment of odontogenic cysts
2017
Background: Odontogenic cysts are defined as those cysts that arise from odontogenic epithelium and occur in the tooth-bearing regions of the jaws. Cystectomy, marsupialization or decompression of odontogenic cyst are treatment approach to this pathology. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the decompression as the primary treatment of the cystic lesions of the jaws and them reduction rates involving different factors. Material and Methods: 23 patients with odontogenic cysts of the jaws, previously diagnosed by anatomical histopathology (follicular cysts (7) and radicular cysts (16)) underwent decompression as an initial treatment. Clinical examination and pre and pos…
A case of osteonecrosis of the jaws in epidermolysis bullosa patient treated with rituximab.
2017
We report a case of a patient with EBA, who developed ONJ after Rituximab treatment.
Evaluation of jaw bone changes in patients with asthma using inhaled corticosteroids with mandibular radiomorphometric indices on dental panoramic ra…
2023
Inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) are an effective drug commonly used in asthma treatment. It is known that osteoporotic changes can occur secondary to steroid usage, depending on dosage and duration. The aim of this study was to compare radiomorphometric indices and fractal dimension on panoramic images of patients with asthma using ICSs and healthy controls. A total of 66 dental panoramic radiographs (DPRs) taken from 32 patients with asthma using ICSs and 34 healthy individuals were evaluated in this retrospective study. Panoramic mandibular index inferior and superior (PMI-i,PMI-s), mandibular cortical width (MCW), gonial index (GI), antegonial index (AI), mandibular cortical index (MCI), …
