Gap junctions are intercellular channels that permit the transfer of ions and small molecules between adjacent cells. These cellular junctions are particularly dense in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), and their contribution to many retinal diseases has been recognized. Effect of the junction angle on turbulent flow at a hydraulic confluence

Despite the existing knowledge concerning the hydrodynamic processes at river junctions, there is still a lack of information regarding the particular case of low width and discharge ratios, which are the typical conditions of mountain river confluences. Aiming at filling this gap, laboratory and numerical experiments were conducted, comparing the results with literature findings. Ten different confluences from 45 ∘ to 90 ∘ were simulated to study the effects of the junction angle on the flow structure, using a numerical code that solves the 3D Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with the k- ϵ turbulence closure model. Abstract Caffeoyltartronic acid and other eleven phenolic com pounds were identified in the MeOH extract of Chondrilla juncea: the flavonoids luteolin, luteolin-7-glucoside, luteolin-7-galactosylglucuronide and quercetin-3-galactoside; the phenolic acids protocatechuic, caffeic, chlorogenic, isochlorogenic and isoferulic and the coumarins cichoriin and aesculetin. The taxonomic im plications of these com pounds have been discussed.

Astrocytic networks and gap junctional communication mediated by connexins (Cxs) have been repeatedly implicated in seizures, epileptogenesis, and epilepsy. However, the effect of seizures on Cx expression is controversial. The present study focused on the response of Cxs to status epilepticus (SE), which is in turn an epileptogenic insult. The expression of neuronal Cx36 and astrocytic Cx30 and Cx43 mRNAs was investigated in the brain of rats in the first day after pilocarpine-induced SE. Background Endovascular treatment with stent-assisted Guglielmi detachable coils is an accepted method for treating intracranial giant aneurysms that otherwise would require more invasive or destructive treatment or could not be treated at all. Nevertheless, there is a paucity of information concerning inner postcoiling aneurysmal changes in human subjects over the long term. El presente artículo plantea una revisión de la predela del retablo de la Virgen María conservado en la localidad de El Collado de Alpuente (Valencia), pintado hacia 1400 en un obrador de pintores florentinos dirigido por Gherardo Starnina. Se aporta la información que se desprende de estudiarlo mediante el sistema de multiband imaging, cuyos resultados permiten relacionar los procedimientos pictóricos de la predela con los preceptos transmitidos en Il libro dell’arte, de Cennino Cennini. El estudio fotográfico ha revelado que en el dibujo subyacente hay indicios de pigmentos y colorantes empleados en el obrador por parte de los diversos pintores que intervinieron en la obra.
