Superconducting tunnel junction fabrication on three-dimensional topography based on direct laser writing

Superconducting junctions are widely used in a multitude of applications ranging from quantum information science and sensing to solidstate cooling. Traditionally, such devices must be fabricated on flat substrates using standard lithographic techniques. In this study, we demonstrate a highly versatile method that allows for superconducting junctions to be fabricated on a more complex topography. It is based on maskless direct laser writing and two-photon lithography, which allows writing in 3D space. Thermal transport is an important physical phenomenon, and it has recently become even more relevant for the reduction of energy losses and the increase of efficiency in novel devices based on thermoelectricity [1]. Charge Transport Mechanisms in Heavy-Ion Driven Leakage Current in Silicon Carbide Schottky Power Diodes

Under heavy-ion exposure at sufficiently high reverse bias voltages silicon carbide (SiC) Schottky diodes are observed to exhibit gradual increases in leakage current with increasing ion fluence. Heavy-ion exposure alters the overall reverse current-voltage characteristics of these diodes, leaving the forward characteristics practically unchanged. This paper discusses the charge transport mechanisms in the heavy-ion damaged SiC Schottky diodes. A macro model, describing the reverse current-voltage characteristics in the degraded SiC Schottky diodes is proposed. peerReviewed

Parastā kadiķa Juniperus communis L. skujas anatomiskā uzbūve

Parastais kadiķis ir nozīmīga kailsēkļu suga Latvijā. Lai noteiktu kadiķa skuju anatomiskās uzbūves atšķirības dažādu laikapstākļu ietekmē, izvēlējās parametrus, kuriem noteikt izmēru atšķirības. Paraugus ievāca trīs parauglaukumos: Valmierā, Kolkā, Sakas pagastā. Katrā parauglaukumā no 30 ievāktajām skujām piecām skujām pagatavoja anatomiskos griezumus. Griezumiem veica izpēti nosakot parametru izmērus. Katrai paraugu ievākšanas vietai tuvākajai meteoroloģiskajai stacijai ievāca datus par vidējo gaisa temperatūru, nokrišņu daudzumu, gaisa mitrumu. Darbā noskaidroja, ka septiņiem no 14 skuju anatomisko uzbūvi raksturojošajiem parametriem ir statistiski būtiskas atšķirības starp parauglaukum…

Development of niobium-based superconducting junctions

This thesis presents a review of publications which mainly focuses on the fabrication and performance of Nb-based normal metal-insulator-superconductor (NIS) tunnel junctions and superconductor-normal metal-superconductor (SNS) Josephson junctions at low temperatures. The Cu/AlOx-Al/Nb based NIS double tunnel junctions were successfully fabricated using conventional electron beam lithography combined with multi-angle thermal evaporation of metals in ultra high vacuum. The subgap characteristics of these junctions showed expected temperature dependence from 0.2 K to 5 K with a good thermometry sensitivity 0.2-0.3 mV/K. Applications of tunnel junctions in low-dimensional nanostructures

This thesis concentrates on studies of AlOx based tunnel junctions and their feasibility for cooling, thermometry and strain sensing in suspended nanostructures. The main result of the thesis is cooling of one dimensional phonon modes of a suspended nanowire with normal metal insulator superconductor (NIS) tunnel junctions. Simultaneous cooling of both electrons and phonons was achieved, and the lowest phonon temperature reached in the system was 42 mK with an initial temperature of 100 mK. In addition, suspended devices show cooling still at a bath temperature of 600 mK.
