Suomalaisen viittomakielen taitotasokuvainten ja arviointikriteereiden kehittäminen Yleisissä kielitutkinnoissa

Artikkelissa kuvaamme lyhyesti suomalaisen viittomakielen taitotasokuvainten ja arviointikriteereiden kehittämistä ja siihen liittyvää validointiprosessia Soveltavan kielentutkimuksen keskuksessa. Suomalaisessa viittomakielessä ei aiemmin ole ollut yhtenäisiä, teoreettisesti määriteltyjä kuvauksia viittomakielen taidon kehittymisestä. Raising the Profile of Sign Language Teachers in Finland

Sign language teaching in Finland has a long history. In contrast, sign language teacher training programs and research into the sign languages of Finland both know a short history. Due to this contrast, the field of sign language teaching nowadays can be seen as the ‘Wild West’. Till today, teachers from different backgrounds do teach sign language. We do not have a clear picture of what knowledge or competencies are expected from these teachers. In this article we would like to share our opinions about what the profile of a sign language teacher could look like in order to raise and advance the discussion and improve the quality of sign language teaching in Finland. nonPeerReviewed

Artikkelissa tarkastelemme, millaista funktioltaan konkreettisten ja abstraktien paikallissijojen kaytto on oppijansuomessa. Tutkimuksen lahtokohtana on Eurooppalainen viitekehys: kielten oppiminen, opettaminen, arviointi (2003, tasta lahtien EVK) ja sen kielitaitotasot A1–C2. Tavoitteena on selvittaa, miten eri kielitaitotasoilla olevat oppijat kayttavat suomen paikallissijoja ja millainen on laheisen sukukielen viron mahdollinen vaikutus paikallissijojen kayton kehittymiseen kielitaitotasoittain. Vironkielistä tekstiä lukevien suomalaisten on havaittu hyödyntävän monenlaisia strategioita selvittääkseen sukukielen sanojen merkityksiä. Yksi niistä on pohjustaminen (priming). Finnish raters’ beliefs about assessing Estonian speakers in a Finnish language test: easy or difficult? This paper aims to contribute to our understanding on rater beliefs and views and to promote transparency in rater’s work in the form of reflection. In the Finnish Studies Programs at two North-American universities, Finnish language students have collaborated online and participated in informal virtual conversational coffee hour meetings. These meetings are offered to complement students’ collaboration conducted during regular language classes. This socioculturally informed study explores how highly educated Finnish language learners represent their agency in visual narratives. Learners (n=59) were asked to draw two pictures of themselves as Finnish language users and provide verbal interpretations of the drawings. The aim of using visual narratives is to reach aspects such as feelings and beliefs which might be difficult to express verbally. The data were analyzed first by using visual grammar set out by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006) and secondly by content analysis. Hungarian private linguistic landscape in South-West Slovakia

In the field of Linguistic Landscape research little attention has been paid to the situations where a minoritized group gives the regional majority, such as South-‐West Slovakia where Hungarians form the majority. A clear majority of public signs, also in the region with a Hungarian majority, are only in Slovak, especially in the ‘official’, public sphere. In rural communities, signs posted by private citizens can be relatively frequent, too. In the truly non-‐ commercial private sphere, minorities have autonomy in public language choice. International audience; The main objective of this study is to test the perception of the vowel /y/ among the Polish learners of FLE, as it does not exist in their natural vowel system. We defend the hypothesis that optimal perception conditions can make the identification and acquisition of new sounds more intelligible.; L'objectif principal de cette étude est de tester la perception de la voyelle /y/ chez des apprenants polonais du FLE, celle-ci n'existant pas, en effet, dans leur système vocalique naturel. Nous défendons l'hypothèse selon laquelle des conditions de perception optimales peuvent rendre plus nettes, plus intelligibles, la perception et l'acquisition de sons nouveaux.
