Multilayer Thin Films by Layer-by-Layer Assembly of Hole- and Electron-Transport Polyelectrolytes: Optical and Electrochemical Properties

In this paper, we pressent the synthesis of a series of p-type and n-type semicondnctring polyelectrolytes with triarylamine, oxadiazole, thiarliazole and triazine moictes. The synthesized polymeric hole and electrom iransport materials were examined optically and electrochemically using UV/Vis spectroscopy. PL spectroscopy and CV. Based on the optical and electrochemical data, each of the energy levels were calculated and all values suggested that the were promising hole-(p-type) or alectron=transprot (n-type) materials for devices. M�ssbauer study of the spatial distribution of the active species in Cs doped Fe2O3-V2O5 catalysts

From a Cs doped Fe2O3-V2O5 (Fe:V=1.4) catalyst exhibiting an inhomogeneous composition after calcination, three different fractions have been separated by visual inspection. One fraction has been found to consist of mainly α-Fe2O3, another one of mainly FeVO4. The third fraction (S1 in the text) is the catalytically most active fraction containing besides both of the former components an amorphous phase of FexVyOz and also the dopant. By combining the results from transmission and conversion electron Mossbauer spectra it has been concluded that the amorphous component is enriched in the surface region of the crystallites of the catalyst. Wetting of mesoscopic soft cylinders: structure and layering transitions.

The wetting of soft mesoscopic long-chain particles is studied. As a model system, a cylindrical brush with poly(vinyl)pyridine side chains on the water surface is characterized by isotherms and x-ray reflectivity. The forces from the two planar interfaces and the intra- and interparticle interactions are all of comparable magnitude. Two layering transitions occur, one from the monolayer to the double layer, the next to a homogeneous multilayer. The hard wall from which layering starts is the smooth polymer/air interface. We demonstrate that chemically stable, multifunctional polymer thin films can be obtained using the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition based on covalent bonds between adsorbing chains. Poly(pentafluorophenyl-4-vinylbenzoate) (P1) or poly(pentafluorophenylacrylate) (P2) polymers were assembled with poly(allyl amine) (PAAm) to yield LbL multilayer films through amide bond formation by the reaction between activated esters of P1 or P2 and amine groups in PAAm, which was quantitatively monitored by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Deposition and production of highly reproducible hybrid Cu[(tBu)4Pc]-polystyrene thin layers via spin casting

This study focuses on the determination of a protocol for the production of a hybrid material composed of a polymer and a macrocyclic complex, namely polystyrene and a tetra-tert-butyl-copper phthalocyanine (Cu[(tBu)4Pc]), in order to obtain a layer thickness of about 100 nm and a controlled porosity in a highly reproducible way. Several methods were implemented and their reproducibility was evaluated through elements of characterization such as optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Abstract Highly efficient, partly solution processed phosphorescent red, green and white organic light emitting diodes with small molecular weight host materials are prepared from commercially available starting compounds. Starting from an evaporated reference device, layers are stepwise replaced by solution processed layers. Replacing the evaporated hole transport layer by a solution processed polymer interlayer does not affect the performance and allows spincoating of the emissive layer after annealing of the polymer. Scale dependent diffusion in latex films studied by photoinduced grating relaxation technique

The transition from an aqueous dispersion of polyacrylate latices into a homogeneous polymer film on drying has been studied by monitoring the diffusion of hydrophobic and hydrophilic photochromic molecular probes with the help of a holographic grating relaxation (forced Rayleigh scattering) technique. Experiments with the hydrophobic probe in wet films result in an unusual spatial scale-dependence of the apparent diffusion coefficient that degenerates into a normal scale-independent diffusion coefficient as the film dries. Orientation of Polymer Functionalized Nanorods in Thin Films

A directed self assembly of anisotropic nanostructures offers a possibility to provide unique functional materials, which are e.g., important in optoelectronic devices. We use the liquid crystalline behavior of polymer functionalized TiO2 and ZnO nanorods to apply methods well known for low molecular liquid crystals to achieve oriented thin films. Convective forces in the meniscus on a structured substrate obtain thin layers of oriented nanoparticles with a ordering parameter of S = 0.7. As another method we present the orientation of polystyrene covered ZnO nanorods under an applied electric field. The method offers a perpendicular alignment of the rods to the surface.
