Main features of an ideal learning space : a user-based description

This paper presents a method to define an ideal learning space from a key user perspective. The target group, upper secondary school students in a Finnish city, was addressed through two online surveys. In these we sought to establish the features that the students considered to be most important in a learning space. The aim was to adapt the redevelopment of school premises to the users’ cultural practices. Two survey methods were employed in the surveys. In this explorative study, we investigated motives of autonomous learners to participate in an online course, and how these motives are related to gameplay motivations, engagement in the course experience, and learning outcomes. Tieto- ja viestintäteknologia (TVT) on tärkeä osa ihmisten jokapäiväistä elämää ja toimintoja. TVT:n yleistyminen yhteiskunnan jokaisella osa-alueella alleviivaa myös uusien digitaalisten kompetenssien tärkeyttä kaikissa ikäluokissa. Improving students‘ learning strategies is important for them in order to learn successfully. This article compares the self-perception of the use of learning strategies in Spanish and Lithuanian secondary schools students when learning science and analyse the students understanding of these strategies to determine the sociocultural environment influence on this perception. Results emphasize the need to include support actions to improve the management of strategies in secondary school.
