This contribution addresses the development of sociolinguistic competence in language contact situations focusing mainly on the analysis of a literary work and the training of future teachers. A review is made on the instruments and dimensions that use the different Spanish universities to evaluate the professors from student’s ratings. Selecting repeated items, almost used in four or more universities, a new instrument has been created and validated with 334 students of the University of A Coruña. Results are analysed.

This paper compares the way Aristotle explains how one body gets alive or the way one mind manages to understand, with the way Wittgenstein discusses some questions as how is it possible to get meaning from the sign, or to follow a rule. This article focuses on two non-fiction works by Native American author N. Scott Momaday: his 1969 historical memoir The Way to Rainy Mountain and his essay collection The Man Made of Words. It specifically tackles performative conceptions of language in the Kiowa storytelling tradition, where words are experienced as speech acts that have the power to intervene in surrounding realities. Taking into account 20th century ethno-cultural and linguistic policies in the United States, the article also reflects on the role indigenous languages may play in contemporary Native American Literature, which has most often been written in English.

History as an explicative recourse and codifying aid in current academic works

This paper analyzes the widespread presence of history and diachronic linguistics in the labour of codification recently carried out by Real Academia Española and Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española in their new books Nueva gramática de la lengua española and Ortografía de la lengua española. These works draw on a wide-ranging and reliable corpus of examples from previous historical periods.
