Development and characterization of co-loaded curcumin/triazole-halloysite systems and evaluation of their potential anticancer activity.
2014
Abstract Positively charged halloysite nanotubes functionalized with triazolium salts (f-HNT) were employed as a carrier for curcumin molecules delivery. The synthesis of these f-HNT new materials is described. Their interaction with curcumin was evaluated by means dynamic light scattering (DLS) and UV–vis spectroscopy in comparison with pristine unmodified HNT (p-HNT). The curcumin load into HNT was estimated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurements, while the morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Release of curcumin from f-HNT, at three different pH values, by means of UV–vis spectroscopy was also studied. Furthermore, different cancer cell …
Pharmaceutical properties of supramolecular assembly of co-loaded cardanol/triazole-halloysite systems
2015
Halloysite nanotubes were explored as drug carrier for cardanol, which is considered as a promising natural anticancer active species. To this aim, besides the pristine nanoclay, a chemical modification of the nanocarrier was performed by attaching triazolium salts with different hydrophobicity at the outer surface of the hollow nanotubes. The interaction between cardanol and nanotubes was highlighted in solution by HPLC. This method proved the loading of the drug into the nanotubes. The solid dried complexes formed by pristine and modified halloysite with the cardanol were characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis as well as water contact angle to evidence the structure,…

Pancreatic islet transplantation is a promising advanced therapy that has been used to treat patients suffering from diabetes type 1. Traditionally, pancreatic islets are infused via the portal vein, which is subsequently intended to engraft in the liver. Severe immunosuppressive treatments are necessary, however, to prevent rejection of the transplanted islets. Novel approaches therefore have focused on encapsulation of the islets in biomaterial implants which can protect the islets and offer an organ-like environment. Vascularization of the device’s surface is a prerequisite for the survival and proper func- tioning of transplanted pancreatic islets. We are pursuing a prevascularization s…
Mangiferin nanoemulsions in treatment of inflammatory disorders and skin regeneration
2018
Abstract In this paper mangiferin nanoemulsions were developed using hyaluronic acid of different molecular weight, in absence or presence of Transcutol-P. An extensive study was carried out on the physico-chemical properties of nanoemulsions. Nanosizer and transmission electron microscopy showed oil droplets average size 296 nm with monodisperses distribution (PI ≤ 0.30). The zeta potential was highly negative (−30 mV). FTIR analysis confirms the existence of physical interactions among compounds. Rheological measurements allowed to conclude that all formulations present a pseudoplastic behavior (s ∼ 0.4) in presence of the biopolymer. Moreover, mangiferin release depends on the molecular …
Unpredictable Performance of pH-Dependent Coatings Accentuates the Need for Improved Predictive in Vitro Test Systems.
2017
First introduced in the second half of the 19th century, enteric coatings are commonly used to protect acid-labile drugs, reduce the risk of gastric side effects due to irritating drugs, or for local drug delivery to the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The currently available enteric-coatings are based on pH-sensitive weakly acidic polymers. Despite the long history of their use, the causes behind their performance often being unpredictable have not been properly investigated with most of the attention being focused only on the gastric emptying. However, little attention has been given to the postgastric emptying disintegration and dissolution of these dosage forms. This lack of attentio…
NATO intervention in the light of the serbian-albanian war over Kosovo
2019
The author of this paper will present the circumstances of the NATO attack on Yugoslavia in 1999. The main goal of this address will be to show historical conditions of the Serbian-Albanian conflict over Kosovo, which led to the escalation of violence in this Serbian province. Moreover, the proofs will be shown that information about ethnic cleansing allegedly perpetrated by the Serbs in Kosovo were fabricated and they were the main cause of a decision made by NATO about the attack. NATO intervention was described in the subject literature in the West as a military operation and the “first warin history for the rights of man”. The author of this paper shall present an analysis exposing this…
