Dark matter stability from Dirac neutrinos in scotogenic 3-3-1-1 theory

2020

We propose the simplest TeV-scale scotogenic extension of the original 3-3-1 theory, where dark matter stability is linked to the Dirac nature of neutrinos, which results from an unbroken $B-L$ gauge symmetry. The new gauge bosons get masses through the interplay of spontaneous symmetry breaking \`a la Higgs and the Stueckelberg mechanism.

Disentangling genuine from matter-induced CP violation in neutrino oscillations

2018

We prove that, in any flavor transition, neutrino oscillation CP violating asymmetries in matter have two disentangled components: (a) a CPT-odd T-invariant term, non-vanishing iff there are interactions with matter; (b) a T-odd CPT-invariant term, non-vanishing iff there is genuine CP violation. As function of the baseline, these two terms are distinct L-even and L-odd observables, respectively. In the experimental region of terrestrial accelerator neutrinos, we calculate their approximate expressions from which we prove that, at medium baselines, the CPT-odd component is small and nearly $\delta$-independent, so it can be subtracted from the experimental CP asymmetry as a theoretical back…

ΔL=3 processes: Proton decay and the LHC

2018

We discuss lepton number violation in three units. From an effective field theory point of view, ΔL=3 processes can only arise from dimension 9 or higher operators. These operators also violate baryon number, hence many of them will induce proton decay. Given the high dimensionality of these operators, in order to have a proton half-life in the observable range, the new physics associated to ΔL=3 processes should be at a scale as low as 1 TeV. This opens up the possibility of searching for such processes not only in proton decay experiments but also at the LHC. In this work we analyze the relevant d=9, 11, 13 operators which violate lepton number in three units. We then construct one simple…

(g−2) anomalies and neutrino mass

2020

Motivated by the experimentally observed deviations from standard model predictions, we calculate the anomalous magnetic moments $a_\alpha = (g-2)_\alpha$ for $\alpha=e,\mu$ in a neutrino mass model originally proposed by Babu-Nandi-Tavartkiladze (BNT). We discuss two variants of the model, the original model plus a minimally extended version with an additional hypercharge zero triplet scalar. While the original BNT model can explain $a_\mu$, only the variant with the triplet scalar can explain both experimental anomalies. The heavy fermions of the model can be produced at the high-luminosity LHC and in the part of parameter space, where the model explains the experimental anomalies, it pre…

Ab initio three-loop calculation of the W -exchange contribution to nonleptonic decays of double charm baryons

2019

We have made an ab initio three-loop quark model calculation of the $W$-exchange contribution to the nonleptonic two-body decays of the doubly charmed baryons $\Xi_{cc}^{++}$ and $\Omega_{cc}^{+}$. The $W$-exchange contributions appear in addition to the factorizable tree graph contributions and are not suppressed in general. We make use of the covariant confined quark model previously developed by us to calculate the tree graph as well as the $W$-exchange contribution. We calculate helicity amplitudes and quantitatively compare the tree graph and $W$-exchange contributions. Finally, we compare the calculated decay widths with those from other theoretical approaches when they are available.

A CMB search for the neutrino mass mechanism and its relation to the Hubble tension

2020

AbstractThe majoron, a pseudo-Goldstone boson arising from the spontaneous breaking of global lepton number, is a generic feature of many models intended to explain the origin of the small neutrino masses. In this work, we investigate potential imprints in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) arising from massive majorons, should they thermalize with neutrinos after Big Bang Nucleosynthesis via inverse neutrino decays. We show that measurements of the CMB are currently sensitive to neutrino-majoron couplings as small as $$\lambda \sim 10^{-13}$$λ∼10-13, which if interpreted in the context of the type-I seesaw mechanism correspond to a lepton number symmetry breaking scale $$v_L \sim {\math…

Theory of elastic neutrino-electron scattering

2020

Theoretical predictions for elastic neutrino-electron scattering have no hadronic or nuclear uncertainties at leading order making this process an important tool for normalizing neutrino flux. However, the process is subject to large radiative corrections that differ according to experimental conditions. In this paper, we collect new and existing results for total and differential cross sections accompanied by radiation of one photon, $\nu e \to \nu e (\gamma)$. We perform calculations within the Fermi effective theory and provide analytic expressions for the electron energy spectrum and for the total electromagnetic energy spectrum as well as for double- and triple-differential cross secti…

Unraveling the nature of universal dynamics in $O(N)$ theories

2020

Many-body quantum systems far from equilibrium can exhibit universal scaling dynamics which defy standard classification schemes. Here, we disentangle the dominant excitations in the universal dynamics of highly-occupied $N$-component scalar systems using unequal-time correlators. While previous equal-time studies have conjectured the infrared properties to be universal for all $N$, we clearly identify for the first time two fundamentally different phenomena relevant at different $N$. We find all $N\geq3$ to be indeed dominated by the same Lorentzian ``large-$N$'' peak, whereas $N=1$ is characterized instead by a non-Lorentzian peak with different properties, and for $N=2$ we see a mixture …

Tuhoisa influentsa tarttui leskipastorska Pihlin kotikirjastoon: pandemian vaikutus 1800-luvun perheen kirjakokoelmaan

2023
