Blue light mediated C–H arylation of heteroarenes using TiO2as an immobilized photocatalyst in a continuous-flow microreactor

Titanium dioxide was applied as an immobilized photocatalyst in a microstructured falling film reactor for the continuous-flow C-H arylation of heteroarenes with aryldiazonium salts as the starting material. Detailed investigations of the catalyst and a successful long-term run proved its excellent usability for this process. Very good yields up to 99% were achieved with broad substrate scope and were compared with batch synthesis. The transfer to the continuous-flow mode revealed an impressive boost in reactor performance solely resulting from the improved irradiation and contact of the catalyst, substrate and light.

Modulating the polarization of broadband terahertz pulses from a spintronic emitter at rates up to 10 kHz

Reliable modulation of terahertz electromagnetic waveforms is important for many applications. Here, we rapidly modulate the direction of the electric field of linearly polarized terahertz electromagnetic pulses with 1–30 THz bandwidth by applying time-dependent magnetic fields to a spintronic terahertz emitter. Polarity modulation of the terahertz field with more than 99% contrast at a rate of 10 kHz is achieved using a harmonic magnetic field. By adding a static magnetic field, we modulate the direction of the terahertz field between angles of, for instance, −53° and 53° at kilohertz rates. Pumice concrete for structural wall panels

Some properties of lightweight pumice stone concrete (LWPSC) are discussed, on account of a possible structural use of this material. Then the results of an experimental investigation are described, in order to show that pumice can really be considered an alternative to common artificial lightweight aggregates, taking into account the performance pointed out by loading tests carried out on structural systems made of LWPSC. Using Dynamic Light Scattering Experimental Setup and Neural Networks For Particle Sizing

Abstract Using a Lorentzian function fit as reference, a basic experiment was designed for processing Dynamic Light Scattering time series, allowing to estimate the average particle size of a suspension. For fitting the averaged power spectrum of the time series, several neural network configurations were tested in order to compare the results with the reference. The results of this comparison revealed a good match, serving as a proof of concept for using neural networks as an alternative for DLS time series processing.

Using Dynamic Light Scattering for Monitoring the Size of the Suspended Particles in Wastewater

Abstract A coherent light scattering experiment on wastewater samples extracted from several stages of water processing within a wastewater processing plant was carried out. The samples were allowed to sediment while they were the subject of a Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) measurement. The recorded time series were processed using an Artificial Neural Network based DLS procedure to produce the average diameter of the particles in suspension. The method, using a single physical procedure for monitoring the variation of the average diameter in time, indicates the dominant type of suspensions in water.

Traditional photodynamic phototherapy is not efficient for anticancer treatment because solid tumors have a hypoxic microenvironment. The development of photoactivated chemotherapy based on photoresponsive polymers that can be activated by light in the “therapeutic window” would enable new approaches for basic research and allow for anticancer phototherapy in hypoxic conditions. Mechanical characterization of rose bengal and green light crosslinked collagen scaffolds for regenerative medicine

Multicavity halloysite-amphiphilic cyclodextrin hybrids for co-delivery of natural drugs into thyroid cancer cells

Multicavity halloysite nanotube materials were employed as simultaneous carriers for two different natural drugs, silibinin and quercetin, at 6.1% and 2.2% drug loadings, respectively. The materials were obtained by grafting functionalized amphiphilic cyclodextrin onto the HNT external surface. The new materials were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, thermogravimetry, turbidimetry, dynamic light scattering and ζ-potential techniques. Millisecond radiative recombination in poly(phenylene vinylene)-based light-emitting diodes from transient electroluminescence

The current and electroluminescence transient responses of standard poly phenylene vinylene -based light-emitting devices have been investigated. The electroluminescence time response is longer milliseconds scale than the current switch-off time by more than one order of magnitude, in the case of small area devices 0.1 cm2 . For large area devices 6 cm2 the electroluminescence decay time decreases from 1.45 ms to 100 s with increasing bias voltage. The fast current decay limits the electroluminescence decay at higher voltages.
