Differences in the activity and distribution of peroxidases from three different portions of germinating Brassica oleracea seeds

Peroxidase (POD, EC 1.11.1.7) activity, cellular localization and isozyme patterns were investigated in the seed integument, cotyledon and embryo axis of Brassica oleracea cv. Cappuccio during pregermination and seedling growth. Seeds started to germinate after 24 h of imbibition. POD activity was localized in the pigmented layer of the integument and in procambial strands of the cotyledon and embryo axis in the first 24 h of imbibition. It was localized in the integumental cells of palisade, pigmented and aleurone layers and in epidermal, meristematic, procambial cells and xylem elements of the root and hypocotyl after 48 h of imbibition. We report the records of three nests of Straight-billed Reedhaunter, Limnoctites rectirostris, in southernmost Brazil. For each nest, we collected information about the biometry, spatial localization within the patch (border or inland) and cardinal orientation of the incubation chamber. Information on number of eggs and reproductive success is also presented. All nests were found early in September. The three nests were situated on the edge of patches and guided incubation chamber opening between north and east. All results are discussed. New species of the rugose coral genus Lithostrotion Fleming in the upper Viséan from the Azrou-Khenifra Basin (Morocco)

The new species Lithostrotion termieri Rodríguez & Somerville is described. It shows very large corallites of the rugose genus Lithostrotion Fleming. It has been recorded up to now only in upper Viséan rocks from the type locality, the Akrab ridge, Morocco also called Tizi Ben Zizouit by Termier & Termier (1950), who identified it as Lonsdaleia floriformis, and south-east from Tabainout, also from the Azrou-Khenifra Basin.

Asellus aquaticus is present in 19 of about 100 Turkish groundwater stations prospected during biospeleological explorations. All specimens of these stygophilic populations remain oculate, even though their integumental pigmentation is more or less reduced. Proasellus lykaonicus Argano & Pesce, 1978 has been found again in a second cave, nearby the type locality. Linosa, isola dell'arcipelago delle Pelagie, vanta un'antica tradizione agricola basata su sistemi colturali tradizionali legati a poche colture agrarie (ortive, vite, cappero, ecc.). Per salvaguardare e valorizzare tali produzioni, il Consorzio Co.Ri.S.S.I.A. di Palermo ha intrapreso uno studio sul cappero linosano (Capparis spinosa L. subsp. rupestris). La prova è stata condotta somministrando schede-questionario ad un campione rappresentativo di produttori di cappero locali unitamente ad indagini esporative sul territorio.
