Oxazoline functionalization of polyethylenes and their blends with polyamides and polyesters

The compatibilization of blends of polyamide-6 (PA6) with linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with high density polyethylene (HDPE), by functionalization of the polyethylenes with oxazoline groups was investigated. Chemical modification of LLDPE and HDPE was carried out by melt free radical grafting with ricinoloxazoline maleinate. : Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is a rare genetic disorder. The most common cause is a mutation in both alleles of the gene encoding for the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, although other causative mutations have been identified. Complications of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease are common in these patients; therefore, reducing the elevated LDL-cholesterol burden is critical in their management. The countercurrent extraction method recently developed for the continuous polymer fractionation (CPF) was applied to linear polyethylene (Mw = 55 kg/mol; Mn = 16,7 kg/mol). Influence of a sterically hindered amine on the photo-oxidation of low density/linear low density polyethylene blends

Abstract Low density/linear low density polyethylene blends show a rate of degradation of the mechanical properties during photo-oxidation which increases with the content of the linear polymer. The use of a sterically hindered amine as UV stabilizer greatly improves the resistance of these blends to UV irradiation. The effectiveness of the stabilizer increases with the content of linear low density polyethylene.
