A Randomized Controlled Trial Assessing the Evolution of the Weight-Bearing Ankle Dorsiflexion Range of Motion Over 6 Sessions of Talus Mobilizations…
2020
Abstract Background Ankle range of motion declines with age, affecting mobility and postural control. Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of a talus mobilization-based intervention among healthy community-dwelling older adults presenting with limited weight-bearing ankle dorsiflexion range of motion and determine how ankle mobility evolved over the treatment. Design This was a randomized clinical trial. Setting This study was conducted in an outpatient clinic. Participants Community-dwelling, older adults over 60 years of age who had limited ankle mobility participated in this study. Interventions The experimental intervention consisted of 6 sessions of manu…
The hypothetical role of congenital hypotonia in the development of early coronoid hyperplasia
2012
Abstract Background Coronoid hyperplasia (CH) is an abnormal bony elongation of a histologically normal coronoid process. Its definitive cause remains unknown. Objectives To analyze the possible implication of congenital hypotonia in the pathogenesis of early coronoid overgrowth. Patients and methods Two infants with congenital hypotonia were evaluated for limited mouth aperture. Bilateral CH was diagnosed. Transoral coronoidectomy was followed by an early dynamic physiotherapy program. Results Significant improvement of maximum interincisal opening was achieved. The review of the scientific literature proved the diagnosis of CH in the infant age group is extremely unusual and the etiology …
Least Energy Solutions with Sign Information for Parametric Double Phase Problems
2022
We consider a parametric double phase Dirichlet problem. In the reaction there is a superlinear perturbation term which satisfies a weak Nehari-type monotonicity condition. Using the Nehari manifold method, we show that for all parameters below a critical value, the problem has at least three nontrivial solutions all with sign information. The critical parameter value is precisely identified in terms of the spectrum of the lower exponent part of the differential operator.
New examples of Calabi-Yau threefolds and genus zero surfaces
2012
We classify the subgroups of the automorphism group of the product of 4 projective lines admitting an invariant anticanonical smooth divisor on which the action is free. As a first application, we describe new examples of Calabi-Yau 3-folds with small Hodge numbers. In particular, the Picard number is 1 and the number of moduli is 5. Furthermore, the fundamental group is non-trivial. We also construct a new family of minimal surfaces of general type with geometric genus zero, K^2=3 and fundamental group of order 16. We show that this family dominates an irreducible component of dimension 4 of the moduli space of the surfaces of general type.
Counting common perpendicular arcs in negative curvature
2013
Let $D^-$ and $D^+$ be properly immersed closed locally convex subsets of a Riemannian manifold with pinched negative sectional curvature. Using mixing properties of the geodesic flow, we give an asymptotic formula as $t\to+\infty$ for the number of common perpendiculars of length at most $t$ from $D^-$ to $D^+$, counted with multiplicities, and we prove the equidistribution in the outer and inner unit normal bundles of $D^-$ and $D^+$ of the tangent vectors at the endpoints of the common perpendiculars. When the manifold is compact with exponential decay of correlations or arithmetic with finite volume, we give an error term for the asymptotic. As an application, we give an asymptotic form…
The Calderon problem in transversally anisotropic geometries
2016
We consider the anisotropic Calderon problem of recovering a conductivity matrix or a Riemannian metric from electrical boundary measurements in three and higher dimensions. In the earlier work \cite{DKSaU}, it was shown that a metric in a fixed conformal class is uniquely determined by boundary measurements under two conditions: (1) the metric is conformally transversally anisotropic (CTA), and (2) the transversal manifold is simple. In this paper we will consider geometries satisfying (1) but not (2). The first main result states that the boundary measurements uniquely determine a mixed Fourier transform / attenuated geodesic ray transform (or integral against a more general semiclassical…
Differentiability of the isoperimetric profile and topology of analytic Riemannian manifolds
2012
Abstract We show that smooth isoperimetric profiles are exceptional for real analytic Riemannian manifolds. For instance, under some extra assumptions, this can happen only on topological spheres. To cite this article: R. Grimaldi et al., C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 347 (2009).
Bounded geometry, growth and topology
2010
We characterize functions which are growth types of Riemannian manifolds of bounded geometry.
Infinitesimal Hilbertianity of Weighted Riemannian Manifolds
2018
AbstractThe main result of this paper is the following: anyweightedRiemannian manifold$(M,g,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$,i.e., a Riemannian manifold$(M,g)$endowed with a generic non-negative Radon measure$\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$, isinfinitesimally Hilbertian, which means that its associated Sobolev space$W^{1,2}(M,g,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$is a Hilbert space. We actually prove a stronger result: the abstract tangent module (à la Gigli) associated with any weighted reversible Finsler manifold$(M,F,\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})$can be isometrically embedded into the space of all measurable sections of the tangent bundle of$M$that are$2$-integrable with respect to$\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$.By following the…
Reilly's type inequality for the Laplacian associated to a density related with shrinkers for MCF
2015
Let $(\bar{M},,e^\psi)$ be a Riemannian manifold with a density, and let $M$ be a closed $n$-dimensional submanifold of $\bar{M}$ with the induced metric and density. We give an upper bound on the first eigenvalue $\lambda_1$ of the closed eigenvalue problem for $\Delta_\psi$ (the Laplacian on $M$ associated to the density) in terms of the average of the norm of the vector ${\vec{H}}_{{\psi}} + {\bar \nabla}$ with respect to the volume form induced by the density, where ${\vec{H}}_{{\psi}}$ is the mean curvature of $M$ associated to the density $e^\psi$. When $\bar{M}=\Bbb R^{n+k}$ or $\bar{M}=S^{n+k-1}$, the equality between $\lambda_1$ and its bound implies that $e^\psi$ is a Gaussian den…
