Austrolebias annual fishes exhibit cell proliferation and neurogenesis throughout life. They withstand extreme environmental changes as their habitat dries out, pressuring nervous system to adapt. Their visual system is challenged to adjust as the water becomes turbid. Therefore, this study focused on how change in photic envi- ronment can lead to an increased cell proliferation in the retina. We administered 5-chloro-2′- deoxyuridine (CldU) and 5-iodo-2′-deoxyuridine (IdU) at different temporal windows to detect cell proliferation in natural light and permanent darkness. Association between urinary incontinence and frailty: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Purpose: Urinary incontinence (UI) and frailty are common geriatric syndromes. Although literature increasingly supports a relationship between these two conditions, no systematic review and meta-analysis has been performed on this topic. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the potential association between UI and frailty, through a meta-analytic approach. Methods: A systematic search in major databases was undertaken until 15th March 2018 for studies reporting the association between UI and frailty. The MAREDAT atlas covers 11 types of plankton, ranging in size from bacteria to jellyfish. Together, these plankton groups determine the health and productivity of the global ocean and play a vital role in the global carbon cycle. Working within a uniform and consistent spatial and depth grid (map) of the global ocean, the researchers compiled thousands and tens of thousands of data points to identify regions of plankton abundance and scarcity as well as areas of data abundance and scarcity. È un ampio saggio introduttivo corredato da un corposo apparato bibliografico al volume Mediterraneo in armi (secc. XV-XVIII), a cura di Rossella Cancila (Palermo, Quaderni di Mediterranea, 2007, 2 volls, pp. 714), in cui l'autrice affronta in uno schema interpretativo di lungo periodo il tema della guerra nel Mediterraneo durante i secoli dell'età moderna, interpretandolo come scontro di potenze piuttosto che come conflitto di culture o di religioni. Malgrado la permanenza del conflitto, il Mediterraneo rimase pur sempre un’area di contatto tra i due mondi, una frontiera permeabile, in cui relazioni diplomatiche, scambi culturali e interessi commerciali continuarono a essere praticati.
Particularities of Grey Alder (Alnus incana) Stands in Riparian Galleries Along Streams of the Southern Transylvanian Tableland (Romania)

Abstract Grey Alder (Alnus incana (L.) Moench.) stands are distributed in the Carpathian area on alluvial deposits with sediments of different grain size as galleries along rivers and streams of the sub-montane to the middle montane level. The geological structure (Tertiary sedimentary deposits) in relation to the hydromorphological processes is the base for the structure of the stream valleys, which are in part very deep. Under the special microclimate of these deeper stream stretches with lower temperatures there are favourable conditions for the development of grey alder stands.

The remarks are complemented by references to the contributions of the participants selected for the pubblication in the same review.
