Tecniche di regolazione del mercato agro-industriale e diritto comune
2018
The paper deals with the latest measures adopted by the European Union in order to protect the financial interests of the Union’ s budget and to prevent any irregularities or non compliance with obligations committed by beneficiaries of payments: particular reference is made to Reg..1306/2013 and Reg.1308/2013. The paper focuses on measures involving both public and private law. Such as the cross-compliance system based on the principle that the full payment to beneficiaries of some supports under the Cap should be linked to compliance with rules concerning land management , agricultural production and agricultural activity; and the duty to use, in the agrifood chain contracts, formalised w…
Noise traders and smart money: Evidence from online searches
2019
International audience; Traditional finance theory considers that the impact of noise traders' attention on asset prices is offset by attention from smart investors. This paper uses online search data to study the influence of noise traders and smart investors on stock returns and volatility. Adopting an original approach, we construct a proxy for smart investor attention based on investors' online search behavior provided by Wikipedia Page Traffic. We combine this new measure with a standard measure of noise traders' attention as proxied by Google Search Volume Index. We show for a sample of 87 French firms over the period 2008–2018 that only noise traders' attention influences stock retur…
Rank response functions in an online learning environment
2021
Abstract We estimate rank response functions after receiving rank-order feedback in an online learning platform. We find that the shapes of the rank response functions depend on the outcome measure under consideration. For our effort measure, i.e., whether learners continue to interact with the platform, we can reject a linear rank response function and find significant evidence of a U-shaped relationship. For our performance measure, i.e., correctly solved exercises, we find no clear pattern overall but suggestive evidence for a linearly decreasing rank response function for individuals in the lower half of the ability distribution, i.e., the lower the rank the lower the performance.
What Geographical Concentration of Industries in the Tunisian Sahel? Empirical Evidence Using Distance‐Based Measures
2020
International audience; This paper examines the location patterns of manufacturing industries within the most developed regions of Tunisia, the Sahel. We use detailed micro-geographic data and the distance-based approach of Duranton and Overman. While the textile industry shows a high degree of geographical concentration, the high-tech industries are also among the most concentrated, meaning that the Tunisian Sahel gathers a specialised pool in these industries. We further analyse the location patterns of manufacturing sub-sectors: totally and partially exporting plants and domestic, mixed and foreign plants and show that totally exporting plants and foreign and mixed plants exhibit strong …
Determinants of COVID-19 Vaccine Rollouts and Their Effects on Health Outcomes
2022
Background Vaccination against the coronavirus disease (SARS-CoV-2) is understood to be the key way out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Limited evidence exists on the determinants of vaccine rollouts and their health effects at the country level. Objective Examine the determinants of COVID-19 vaccine rollouts and their effects on health outcomes. Methods Ordinary least squares regressions with standard errors clustered at the country level for Cross-section and Panel daily data of vaccinations and various health outcomes (new COVID-19 cases, fatalities, intensive care unit (ICU) admissions) for an unbalanced sample of about 200 countries during the period 16 December 2020 to 20 June 2021. Results…
Lp-uniqueness for elliptic operators with unbounded coefficients in RN
AbstractLet A be an elliptic operator with unbounded and sufficiently smooth coefficients and let μ be a (sub)-invariant measure of the operator A. In this paper we give sufficient conditions guaranteeing that the closure of the operator (A,Cc∞(RN)) generates a sub-Markovian strongly continuous semigroup of contractions in Lp(RN,μ). Applications are given in the case when A is a generalized Schrödinger operator.
Fuzzy Data Fusion for Real-World Mapping Using 360° Rotating Ultrasonic Sensor
1997
Abstract Mobile robot perception of the external environment is limited by the features of the used sensor. An useful technique used to improve robot perception is data fusion. This paper presents an approach to build a map of an unknown environment applying fuzzy data fusion methods to data acquired through an ultrasonic sensor. Conditioning of these data and motion control of the mobil robot by fuzzy data fusion are also described. The resulting two dimensional map is used for path planning and navigation. The proposed approach is exrperimentally tested using real distance measures acquired by a 360° rotating sensor.
Universal N-partite d-level pure-state entanglement witness based on realistic measurement settings
2018
Entanglement witnesses are operators that are crucial for confirming the generation of specific quantum systems, such as multipartite and high-dimensional states. For this reason, many witnesses have been theoretically derived which commonly focus on establishing tight bounds and exhibit mathematical compactness as well as symmetry properties similar to that of the quantum state. However, for increasingly complex quantum systems, established witnesses have lacked experimental achievability, as it has become progressively more challenging to design the corresponding experiments. Here, we present a universal approach to derive entanglement witnesses that are capable of detecting the presence …
The Association Between Epigenetic Clocks and Physical Functioning in Older Women: A 3-Year Follow-up
2021
Abstract Background Epigenetic clocks are composite markers developed to predict chronological age or mortality risk from DNA methylation (DNAm) data. The present study investigated the associations between 4 epigenetic clocks (Horvath’s and Hannum’s DNAmAge and DNAm GrimAge and PhenoAge) and physical functioning during a 3-year follow-up. Method We studied 63- to 76-year-old women (N = 413) from the Finnish Twin Study on Aging. DNAm was measured from blood samples at baseline. Age acceleration (AgeAccel), that is, discrepancy between chronological age and DNAm age, was determined as residuals from linear model. Physical functioning was assessed under standardized laboratory conditions at b…
Assessment of water shortage in urban areas
2007
Recent history has demonstrated that extreme hydrological events such as floods and droughts can create additional stress on water supplies essential for human and ecosystem health. As stated several times by European Environmental Agency, the prudent and efficient use of water is thus an important issue in Europe and a number of policies and mechanisms have been used or have been formulated to ensure sustainable use of water in the long term. Urban uses are responsible of almost the 17% of the total European fresh water consumption and they are rapidly growing depending on the extension of urban areas and concentration of population in cities. The present chapter will discuss the phases in…
