Validity of Landauer principle and quantum memory effects via collision models

2019

We study the validity of Landauer principle in the non-Markovian regime by means of collision models where the intracollisions inside the reservoir cause memory effects generating system-environment correlations. We adopt the system-environment correlations created during the dynamical process to assess the effect of non-Markovianity on the Landauer principle. Exploiting an exact equality for the entropy change of the system, we find the condition for the violation of the Landauer principle, which occurs when the established system-environment correlations become larger than the entropy production of the system. We then generalize the study to the non-equilibrium situation where the system …

Harnessing non-Markovian quantum memory by environmental coupling

2015

Controlling the non-Markovian dynamics of open quantum systems is essential in quantum information technology since it plays a crucial role in preserving quantum memory. Albeit in many realistic scenarios the quantum system can simultaneously interact with composite environments, this condition remains little understood, particularly regarding the effect of the coupling between environmental parts. We analyze the non-Markovian behavior of a qubit interacting at the same time with two coupled single-mode cavities which in turn dissipate into memoryless or memory-keeping reservoirs. We show that increasing the control parameter, that is the two-mode coupling, allows for triggering and enhanci…

Associative Memory Based on Double-Gating of Molecularly Linked Nanosystem Arrays:  A Theoretical Scheme

2008

We discuss theoretically the properties of an associative memory (a system that can retrieve a stored pattern that is similar to the input pattern) based on the ideal conductive properties of a molecularly linked nanosystem array. Two schemes are considered for the memory based on the gate potential modulation of the drain-source current through the array. In the first scheme, the basic units of the electric circuit are nanosystems (e.g., nanoparticles) arranged in a series array. Each nanosystem is assumed to have two states of conductances, GM and Gm (GM ≫ Gm), that can be tuned externally by the gate and backgate potentials. The bit sequence associated with a given pattern is stored as t…

Axially deformed solution of the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov equations using the transformed harmonic oscillator basis (II) HFBTHO v2.00d: a new v…

2012

We describe the new version 2.00d of the code HFBTHO that solves the nuclear Skyrme Hartree-Fock (HF) or Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov (HFB) problem by using the cylindrical transformed deformed harmonic-oscillator basis. In the new version, we have implemented the following features: (i) the modified Broyden method for non-linear problems, (ii) optional breaking of reflection symmetry, (iii) calculation of axial multipole moments, (iv) finite temperature formalism for the HFB method, (v) linear constraint method based on the approximation of the Random Phase Approximation (RPA) matrix for multi-constraint calculations, (vi) blocking of quasi-particles in the Equal Filling Approximation (E…

Real-Time SRAM Based Particle Detector

2015

International audience; Monitoring radiative environments is of great importance, especially for facilities hosting large particle accelerators and nuclear power plants. Such facilities make use of monitoring systems that are usually composed of different sensors to evaluate the intensity of the ambient radiation field in different locations. In this paper, we propose an SRAM-based monitor that works in dynamic mode (memory continuously accessed), according to data gathered by irradiating our sensor in several particle accelerator facilities. The dynamic mode of operation allows for real-time sensing, especially when the particle fluence is high. In order to ensure the efficiency of the det…

A novel arousal-based individual screening reveals susceptibility and resilience to PTSD-like phenotypes in mice

2021

Translational animal models for studying post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are valuable for elucidating the poorly understood neurobiology of this neuropsychiatric disorder. These models should encompass crucial features, including persistence of PTSD-like phenotypes triggered after exposure to a single traumatic event, trauma susceptibility/resilience and predictive validity. Here we propose a novel arousal-based individual screening (AIS) model that recapitulates all these features. The AIS model was designed by coupling the traumatization (24 h restraint) of C57BL/6 J mice with a novel individual screening. This screening consists of z-normalization of post-trauma changes in startle …

Learning can be detrimental for a parasitic wasp

2021

Animals have evolved the capacity to learn, and the conventional view is that learning allows individuals to improve foraging decisions. The parasitoid Telenomus podisi has been shown to parasitize eggs of the exotic stink bug Halyomorpha halys at the same rate as eggs of its coevolved host, Podisus maculiventris, but the parasitoid cannot complete its development in the exotic species. We hypothesized that T. podisi learns to exploit cues from this non-coevolved species, thereby increasing unsuccessful parasitism rates. We conducted bioassays to compare the responses of naïve vs. experienced parasitoids on chemical footprints left by one of the two host species. Both naïve and experienced …

Decision Making Impairment: A Shared Vulnerability in Obesity, Gambling Disorder and Substance Use Disorders?

2016

Introduction Addictions are associated with decision making impairments. The present study explores decision making in Substance use disorder (SUD), Gambling disorder (GD) and Obesity (OB) when assessed by Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) and compares them with healthy con- trols (HC). Methods For the aims of this study, 591 participants (194 HC, 178 GD, 113 OB, 106 SUD) were assessed according to DSM criteria, completed a sociodemographi c interview and con- ducted the IGT. Results SUD, GD and OB present impaired decision making when compared to the HC in the over- all task and task learning, however no differences are found for the overall performanc e inthe IGT among the clinical groups. Results…
