Places of ancient agrarian culture : the discovery of a grain pit
2020
The recovery of memory as well as the protection, preservation, conservation and enhancement of the cultural heritage of our territory – both material and immaterial – are the starting points for this multidisciplinary research, which aims to recount a history that has almost been forgotten. We refer to the tradition of agrarian culture, and to the ancient production, commercialization and conservation of wheat: a valuable asset of sustenance for the community that, in centuries past, played a fundamental role for the socio-economic development of our country, particularly for cities overlooking the Mediterranean basin. Several methods and places have been used to store wheat. This study fo…
Effects of complex movements on the brain as a result of increased decision-making
2019
Non-linearity is considered to be an essential property of complex systems. The associated high sensitivity of the result on the constraints leads to fundamental problems of a system description based on variables selected in the reductionist tradition. The attempt to compensate the problems by averaging data leads to the neglect of the individual and the moment. However, both is of enormous importance for effective therapy, training, and learning. The theory of differential learning suggests an alternative approach to dealing with these problems. With constantly changing complex whole-body movements, extensive decisions are demanded from the learner, which lead to brain states through an o…
Lope and the Creation of Contemporary Heroes: «La nueva victoria de don Gonzalo de Córdoba» y «La nueva victoria del marqués de Santa Cruz»
2013
Lope defended the usefulness of history presented on stage, that is, theatre’s function of preserving and creating a collective memory. In the case of La nueva victoria de don Gonzalo and La nueva victoria del marqués de Santa Cruz, this playwright dramatized military events that took place immediately before the composition of these plays. In this article i will analyze the fundamental traits of those texts in relation to Lope’s desire to please his patrons and, at the same time, to participate in the making of a Spanish national identity, which intensified during the first years of king Philip IV’s reign through different media, among them painting and theatre. This paper ends reflecting …
Studying the User Experience in Online Banking Services: An Eye-Tracking Application
2019
Abstract Neuromarketing as research method contrbutes to understanding consumer behavior a step further than traditional marketing research. The aim of the current study is to explore the usability and cognitive understanding of banking services webpages. In this regard, the theoretical part of the article reviews the relevant literature related to neuromarketing as research method and the use of eye-tracker as research technique. Further on, a two-step research design was developed for studying the consumers’ attention and memory during and after viewing two Romanian banking services websites. The results showed that the way information is structured and presented on the webpages influence…
Cognitive processes related to problematic pornography use (PPU): A systematic review of experimental studies
2021
Highlights • Some people experience symptoms derived from pornography viewing. • Cognitive processes may be related to the development of Problematic Pornography Use (PPU). • We performed a systematic review of 21 studies exploring cognitive processes related to PPU. • We identified 4 cognitive processes relevant for the development and maintenance of PPU.
Autenticità, materia, memoria
2012
The chapter is dedicated to the concepts of authenticity, matter and memory. The discussion draws the thought of Walter Benjamin, Henry Focillon, Cesare Brandi, George Stainer, Jacques Le Goff and other Italian contributions. The issue of materiality is connected to works of architecture and their values of irreproducibility and authenticity.
Effect of retention interval on the simultaneous cognate-noncognate and remember-know mirror effects.
2006
Recognition memory for Spanish-Catalan cognate and noncognate words was tested at retention intervals of 30 minutes, 3 days, and 7 days using a remember/know response procedure. We observed a clear mirror effect for the cognate-noncognate stimulus class and a remember-know response categorisation at the immediate retention interval. However, the cognate and noncognate mirror was still observed at 3 and 7 days, whereas the remember-know mirror disappeared at both retention intervals. Also, we ran a repeated testing condition to be able to carry out a sequential item analysis and observe the fate of the original remember and know responses 3 or 7 days later. The analysis supported the idea th…
The mitotic spindle protein SPAG5/Astrin connects to the Usher protein network postmitotically
2011
Abstract Background Mutations in the gene for Usher syndrome 2A (USH2A) are causative for non-syndromic retinitis pigmentosa and Usher syndrome, a condition that is the most common cause of combined deaf-blindness. To gain insight into the molecular pathology underlying USH2A-associated retinal degeneration, we aimed to identify interacting proteins of USH2A isoform B (USH2AisoB) in the retina. Results We identified the centrosomal and microtubule-associated protein sperm-associated antigen (SPAG)5 in the retina. SPAG5 was also found to interact with another previously described USH2AisoB interaction partner: the centrosomal ninein-like protein NINLisoB. Using In situ hybridization, we foun…
Degree of elaborative processing in two implicit and two explicit memory tasks
1992
The level of elaborative processing made by subjects to pairs of words (read vs. generated) and the degree of relationship between the words of each pair (related, rhymed, or rhymed and related) were manipulated on two explicit tasks (cued recall and recognition) and two implicit tasks (word-stem completion and tachistoscopic word identification) to test the empirical validity of the processing-approach theory (see, e.g., Roediger, 1990a, 1990b; Roediger, Srinivas, & Weldon, 1989) of explicit/implicit dissociations. Results give support to the predictions made by Roediger"s theory.
A tribute to Juan Rosai
2021
On July 7, 2020 the world of Surgical Pathology lost one of the brightest minds ever: Prof. Juan Rosai. It certainly happened to many of us while approaching a difficult case to exclaim: - This is a case for Juan Rosai! This simple expression synthesizes the legend that was created around him. Those who knew him personally were undoubtedly amazed by his diagnostic insight, exceptional memory and organizational skills. However, his vast culture and passions were not limited to medicine, but ranged to music, literature and the world of sports, especially football. We worked with him in his last years of activity and want to share with the communities of pathologists our warm feelings about this …
