Theory of mercury intrusion in a distribution of unconnected wedge-shaped slits

2004

Effective mercury intrusion in a wedge-shaped slit is gradual, the intruded depth increasing with applied pressure. The Washburn equation must be modified accordingly. It relates the distance, e, separating the three-phase contact lines on the wedge faces to the hydrostatic pressure, P, wedge half-opening angle alpha, mercury surface tension gamma, and contact angle theta: e=(-2gamma/P)cos(theta-alpha) if theta-alpha>pi2. The equations relating the volume of mercury in a single slit to hydrostatic pressure are established. The total volume of mercury V(Hg)(tot)(E(0),e) intruded in a set of unconnected isomorphous slits (same alpha value) with opening width, E, distributed over interval [E(0…

Experimental Investigations and Numerical Analysis for Improving Knowledge of Incremental Sheet Forming Process for Sheet Metal Parts

2009

The paper is related to the analysis of shape distortions and springback effects arising in Single Point Incremental Forming. An experimental set up has been designed and manufactured to carry single point incremental forming on small size sheet metal parts. The experimental set up is mounted on 3-axes CNC milling machine tool and the forming tool is attached and move with the spindle. Experiments have been carried out on sheet metal parts to obtain tronconical shapes. The forming strategy associated to the movement of the forming tool has been also investigated. The experiments indicate that shape distortions arising in the corners of the tronconical shape are clearly related to forming st…

Characterization of defect density states in MoOx for c-Si solar cell applications

Layers of MoOx have been deposited by thermal evaporation followed by post-deposition annealing (PDA). The density of states (DOS) distributions of the MoOx films were extracted deconvoluting the absorption spectra, measured by a phothermal deflection spectroscopy setup, including the small polaron contribution. Results revealed a sub-band defect distribution centered 1.1 eV below the conduction band; the amplitude of this distribution was found to increase with PDA temperature and film thickness.

DETERMINATION OF MACRO ELEMENTS IN GLUTEN-FREE FOOD FOR CELIAC PEOPLE BY ICP-OES

2015

This paper is the first analytical approach to the study of seven nutrients in the gluten-free foods for celiac people. The ICP-OES technique was used. One of the advantages about the use of ICP-OES for this characterization is the high selectivity and low interferences for studied elements. The concentration values of K, Li, Sr, Na, Ca, Mg and Al in seventeen gluten-free food samples are reported. Considering the average concentrations of the elements analyzed, excluding lithium, in the present study it can be concluded that they are inadequate if compared with the recommended daily intake by international organisms, providing only from 1.5 to 20% of the RDI for the essential metals. In pa…

EVALUATION OF INORGANIC CONTAMINANT REMOVAL FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS USING PYROLIZED CHICKEN MANURE, CONIFER AND POPLAR WOOD AS ADSORBENT

2014

Anthropogenic activities alter the natural flow of materials and introduce novel chemicals into the environment thereby causing serious soil and water pollution. Indeed, many industries produce aqueous effluents containing toxic substances, especially heavymetals. The presence of these contaminants in the environment is a great issue because of their toxicityand bioaccumulation ability which affect human life and the environment. Various physicochemical and biological techniques have been used to remove the heavy metals from waste waters, including chemical precipitation, ion exchange, chemical coagulation, electrolytic methods, membrane processes, and adsorption. Biochar is a carbonaceous …

Effect of Pre-Reduction on the Properties and the Catalytic Activity of Pd/Carbon Catalysts: A Comparison with Pd/Al2O3

2013

The effect of pre-reduction in solution with chemical reagents on the catalytic performance and catalyst properties of Pd/carbon catalysts was systematically investigated with a multitechnique approach. The results are critically discussed in comparison to those recently obtained on analogous Pd/alumina catalysts. It was proved that the Pd phase on the carbon surface is characterized by a high mobility, opposite to what occurs on alumina. As a result, the Pd particles on carbon aggregate together during pre-reduction, with a consequent decrease in available metal surface. Pd particles remain aggregated also in reaction conditions; the decreased Pd dispersion negatively affects the catalyst …

Inhibitoren der Korrosion 27 (1). Inhibitoren der Korrosion von Kupfer - Gibt es eine Struktur-Wirkungsbeziehung?

1982

Inhibitors of corrosion 27 (1). Over 570 compounds of greatly varying structure have been tested under controlled conditions in agitation and pH-stat experiments designed…

Mössbauer-Active Transition Metals Other than Iron

2010

The previous chapters are exclusively devoted to the measurements and interpretation of 57Fe spectra of various iron-containing systems. Iron is, by far, the most extensively explored element in the field of chemistry compared with all other Mossbauer-active elements because the Mossbauer effect of 57Fe is very easy to observe and the spectra are, in general, well resolved and they reflect important information about bonding and structural properties. Besides iron, there are a good number of other transition metals suitable for Mossbauer spectroscopy which is, however, less extensively studied because of technical and/or spectral resolution problems. In recent years, many of these difficult…
