Stage IV breast cancer: a population-based study about prognostic factors according to HER2 and HR status

International audience; We aim to describe trends in net survival (NS) and to assess the prognostic factors among women with de novo metastatic breast cancer (MBC) according to human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and hormone receptor (HR) status. Data on women suffering from de novo MBC and diagnosed from 1998 to 2009 were provided by the Côte-d'Or breast cancer registry. NS was described using the Pohar Perme estimator and prognostic factors were investigated in a generalised linear model. We identified 232 patients (mean age = 64.7). Preliminary Results of Two Eortc Randomized Trials in Previously Untreated Patients with Advanced T3 — T4 Prostatic Cancer

At the end of 1976 and the beginning of 1977 respectively, the EORTC Genito-Urinary Tract Cancer Cooperative Group started two randomized phase III protocols in previously untreated patients with advanced T3–4 prostatic cancer (1–3). The first trial, 30762, compared Stilboestrol and Estracyt, while the second, 30761, was a randomized comparison of Stilboestrol, Cyproterone Acetate and Medroxyprogesterone Acetate. Both trials have now been closed to patient entry and the principal endpoints of the studies analyzed. This paper will present the interim results which have emerged from these two studies.

Present research concerning the efficiacy of therapeutic strategies for squamous cell carcinomas of the oral cavity and the oropharynx profits from former observational studies. The so-called retrospective German, Austrian, and Swiss Association for Head and Neck Tumors (DOSAK) study (Platz et al. 1986) served to review existing proposals for classification (UICC 1973, 1978; AJC 1978) and to develop a statistical classification which enables the head and neck oncologist to define prognostically homogeneous patient collectives. The treatment-dependent prognostic index (TPI) was the corresponding result (Platz et al. 1982).

The effects of E-64 (Cathepsin B and L inhibitor) and Pepstatin A (Cathepsin D inhibitor) on spontaneous and experimental metastasis formation were investigated in mice with MCa mammary carcinoma, M5076 ovarian sarcoma and L1210 leukemia. Pepstatin induced a marked decrease in the number of spontaneous metastasis in MCa or M5076 tumor bearing mice. This phenomenon was also noted with E-64 but only in M5076 tumor bearing mice.
