Bisphosphonates affect migration ability and cell viability of HUVEC, fibroblasts and osteoblasts in vitro
2010
Oral Diseases (2011) 17, 194–199 Objectives: Bisphosphonate-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw (BP-ONJ) is a side effect in patients being treated with bisphosphonates. The bisphosphonates most often associated with BP-ONJ are the highly potent nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates, e.g. pamidronate or zoledronate. In terms of BP-ONJ aetiology, several theories are being discussed: inhibition of bone remodelling, effect on soft tissues, and antiangiogenic effect of bisphosphonates. The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the effect of different potent bisphosphonates on osteoblasts, fibroblasts and human umbilicord vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Materials and methods: Three nitr…
Anti-Human CD9 Fab Fragment Antibody Blocks the Extracellular Vesicle-Mediated Increase in Malignancy of Colon Cancer Cells.
2022
Intercellular communication between cancer cells themselves or with healthy cells in the tumor microenvironment and/or pre-metastatic sites plays an important role in cancer progression and metastasis. In addition to ligand–receptor signaling complexes, extracellular vesicles (EVs) are emerging as novel mediators of intercellular communication both in tissue homeostasis and in diseases such as cancer. EV-mediated transfer of molecular activities impacting morphological features and cell motility from highly metastatic SW620 cells to non-metastatic SW480 cells is a good in vitro example to illustrate the increased malignancy of colorectal cancer leading to its transformation and aggressive b…
REAL HUMANS? : Affective imaginaries of the human and its Others in the Swedish TV series Äkta människor
2019
According to the Swedish science fiction TV series Äkta människor (Real Humans, SVT and Matador film 2012-2014), humanoid robots called “hubots” are replacing the human workforce in care work and assembly line industries. Against the backdrop of current debates about immigration and citizenship in the Nordic countries, this article does a close, contextual reading of the series, exploring how the hubots influence work and family life. We are particularly interested in how hubots tie in with the cultural circulation of affect in relation to Otherness and how responses towards the “not-quite” human or dehumanized Other are negotiated in the present-day Nordic cultural imaginaries. What kinds …
The Status of EGFR Modulates the Effect of miRNA-200c on ZEB1 Expression and Cell Migration in Glioblastoma Cells
2020
Migration of glioblastoma cells into surrounding tissue is one of the main features that makes this tumor incurable. We evaluated whole-genome miRNA expression profiling associated with different EGFR amplification patterns in 30 cases of primary glioblastoma. From the 64 miRNAs that showed differential expression between tumors with a high level of EGFR amplification and tumors without EGFR amplification, 40% were related with cell migration, being miR-200c the most differentially expressed between these two groups. We investigated the effect of miR-200c on ZEB1 expression and cell migration in an in vitro transfection model with a miR-200c mimic, a miR-200c inhibitor and siRNA targeting E…
In vivo imaging and quantification of the continuous keratin filament network turnover
2008
Keratin polypeptides are major components of the epithelial cytoskeleton forming a filamentous 3D-network. Like intermediate filament polypeptides of other cell types, keratins make up a stable, but elastic network that is responsible for mechanical stress resilience. At the same time the keratin network is able to change its shape during development, cell division, metastasis and cell migration.
Molecular and isotopic composition of free hydrocarbon gases from Sicily, Italy
2004
[1] Chemical and isotopic data have been used as geochemical tracers for a genetic characterization of hydrocarbon gases from a total of eleven manifestations located in Eastern and Central-Southern Sicily (Italy). The molecular analysis shows that almost all the samples are enriched in methane (up to 93.2% Vol.), with the exception of four gas samples collected around Mt. Etna showing high mantle-derived CO2 content. Methane isotope signatures suggest that these are thermogenic gases or a mixture between thermogenic gases and microbial gases. Although samples from some mud volcanoes in Southern Sicily (Macalube di Aragona) show isotope signatures consistent with a mixing model between ther…
Applications and stereoselective syntheses of P-chirogenic phosphorus compounds.
2016
International audience; Phosphorus compounds bearing chirality on the P-center are usually qualified as P-chirogenic or P-stereogenic. This chemical class concerns natural products, agrochemistry, molecular materials, biology and pharmacy, although it is certainly in coordination chemistry and in asymmetric catalysis using chiral transition metal complexes that P-chirogenic phosphorus compounds are the most used. The chiral phosphine ligands and their uses in asymmetric metal-catalyzed reactions have been widely reviewed in literature. However, an overview covering the applications as well as the stereoselective syntheses of all classes of phosphorus compounds has not yet been provided. Thi…
Data from: Effects of food abundance and early clutch predation on reproductive timing in a high Arctic shorebird exposed to advancements in arthropo…
2017
Climate change may influence the phenology of organisms unequally across trophic levels and thus lead to phenological mismatches between predators and prey. In cases where prey availability peaks before reproducing predators reach maximal prey demand, any negative fitness consequences would selectively favor resynchronization by earlier starts of the reproductive activities of the predators. At a study site in northeast Greenland, over a period of 17 years, the median emergence of the invertebrate prey of Sanderling Calidris alba advanced with 1.27 days per year. Yet, over the same period Sanderling did not advance hatching date. Thus, Sanderlings increasingly hatched after their prey was m…
Diritti fondamentali, terrorismo e privazione della cittadinanza
